Poppy is a Lhasa Apso and she is 5 years old. She is usually very happy and bouncy. On Wednesday morning she had pooed in the house during the night which she never does, it was soft but not diaorheah (sp) but she seemed ok in herself. Thursday morning it had happened again and she was sick (white and foamy) and perhaps a bit quiet but not seeming to be really ill, so I checked her symptoms on google and felt confident that it was probably just a bit of a tummy upset like we all get from time to time. I didnt feed her for 24 hours and then gave her some rice and chicken on thurs night and friday morning, and yesterday she was a lot better and nearly back to normal.

Then last night she went quiet again and didnt seem interested in eating so I didnt feed her and now this morning theres proper diaorhear in the house and she has just been sick again.
I think she needs the vet now, pls advise me as I am an inexperienced dog owner, she is my first dog, and hasnt really been poorly until now.
Thanks for reading, and thankyou in advance for any help you can give me

yes, pop her along to the vet this morning to get checked out. It may well just be a virus, there are a few horrid ones going about but it does sound as if it could be a blockage of some sort, not to scare you. I do what you did in such cases but if they are no better in 48 hours, vet. Let us know how she is.

There are some random viruses spreading like wild fire, all mine have have a virus over the last few weeks, im sure it mutated from a kennel cough dog I had in, but they had a 12 hour bout of puking gloopy bile, some has loose faeces, down in the dump and 1 night off food (not all just some) now some are reverse sneezing (humphhhhh) never mind, my akita got it 1st so I did panick but once the rest started I let them get over it. My mams rescue dogs had a bout too 9again not all) just some of them.

One of our dogs was just like this earlier in the week, took her to vet straight away (cos I'm a worrier) and they couldn't find anything. 2 days later she was back to normal so I agree it was probably a random virus she picked up.
Hope your's picks up quickly too but take her to the vet for peace of mind.

Hi all, we were at the vets for two hours, they were very busy, lots of poorly dogs and cats!

Poppy had a temp of 103 and the vet said that the whole of her intestinal tract is sore and inflamed. She is also being sick. She was given anti sickness injection and anti biotic injection and tablets. We went back to the waiting room to pay and make another appt for Monday and she diaoreahed all over the floor, and it was very bloody. Very upsetting, poor little dog.
So we had to wait to see the vet again, and she was given two more lots of drugs. The vet said it could be Seasonal Canine Infection, I think thats what it is called, but she said that that usually comes on quicker than Poppy's illness has, and she doesn't think it is that, but all the medication she has will treat that anyway if thats what she has.
So we are home and she is asleep in her bed so will hopefully start to see some improvement soon.
Some hugs and kind thoughts very much appreciated!

as Cayla said there are some horrid viruses on the go - mine came back from a comp with one and were quite poorly. I was worried about seasonal canine as well but my vet said it comes on so quickly they have usually had it within 24 hours - which isnt nice - but makes it highly unlikely. Have you googled it? Its prevalent if you have walked in woodland I believe and more down in England than in Scotland where I am. One of the viruses on the go appears to clear up a bit then come back I think. Great your dog has been checked out and the vet doesnt believe its a blockage, thats a relief for you. Hope she feels better really soon and dont be worrying about going back to the vet asap if you have any concerns, dont wait!

I hope your dog is feeling better! Mine was in the vets for two days with Gastroenteritis earlier this month. Had to be put on a drip with antibiotics. She went downhill VERY quickly, within about eight hours she went from usual, happy self to woozy, sick, and very dehydrated. She perked up very quickly once in the vets though. It really knocked her for six and took her about a week to be fully back to normal.

I know of other dog owners around my way whose dogs have had similar symptoms to yours and they did turn out to be viral - I really hope the is the case with your girl as even though they feel rotten it usually only lasts a couple of days and then they get better.

My old (15yrs) JR went down with a horrible bug on Boxing Day. Was slightly off and looked awful! Vet gave steriods and antibiotics and she seemed to be on the mend but yesterday she went off her food again and was sick. Still not eaten yet. Doesn't look as bad as Boxing Day when she didn't even want to lift her head but very quiet and just sleeping. She also went from diarrhea to nothing for 5 days! We went for a walk in the woods on Christmas Eve. What is this seasonal virus?
