Poor old Dexter had his second cruciate ligament op nearly 4 weeks ago. The wound got infected 2 weeks ago and he was quite lame with it. Infection has cleared up but he is still lame!! Am going to ring the vet tomorrow but have a feeling he will have to go back in. He hates the vet. It didn't help that he fell in the fish pond today!! He was on a lead but slipped in!!

Mattilda - Blue is still lame too. I do think it's a long, slow recovery. When he runs, he just lifts the leg up and runs. His weight is still over to the opposite side, when he stands you can see he's on his toe, not really weight bearing.

When he went back to vets for stitches out vet said a lot of it is in their mind, they know it hurt before so will take some time to trust that it won't hurt.

I reckon it's gonna be a good 3 months for full recovery (going on past experience with another dog).

Blue's off the pain killers now (20 days in all on them) but I actually gave him a previcox this morning as he looked quite sore which has obviously made him feel better as he's full of life now!!

Thanks for that Nijinsky it makes me feel a lot better. Problem I have is he was fairly sound before the infection so at the back of my mind I'm wondering if that has done something inside his leg and not just the wound. Also, though the vet told me not to, I'm comparing this op to the one he had in July. He was pretty much sound by this time. Will mither the vet tomorrow just to put my mind at ease though!! Just being an over anxious Mummy!!

I know how you feel, I thought yesterday, as he seemed really sore, has it worked? Sometimes he looks fine, sometimes not. He's worse when he first gets up, then walking around seems to ease it a bit. He hasn't been 100% yet though. I find it difficult to be as strict as I should though, so then I blame myself. I think I'll give it another week and then take him back and see what vet says.
