Morning

This weekend a friend and i went on our first fun ride. It was good fun.

Ponios where quite fizzy to start with but half way round settled, we took it quite steady three short canters and one short gallop. Fair enough we where the tenth goup to set off and came home first, but they are fit and 10 miles is a normal weekend hack across the moors.

I have a arab, and my friends is a full tb. (Both ridden in snaffles but can be sharp and fizzy.)

To start the mare got wound up which set both off just jog troting as there where quite alot of people in front of us (and they arn't use hacking out with other horses), as soon as she hit grass she does a very boncy canter at a walking or trot speed but doesn't go anywhere, my gelding jog trotted next to her.

But to someone who dosn't know the horses god knows what it must of looked like. Until they settled

When we caught up I asked to if we could be passed then over took at walk pace, then thanked them. Asked if they where having a nice ride etc. Thanked everybody by the gates. And made sure if there where kids i spoke to the child as well as the adult.

Common manners, I was amazed at people who looked behind them saw us, and almost seemed like they where being put out to let us pass. (my fault really my little arab normal forward going walk is at the speed of most people trots).

What amazed me the most was a person on their horse with two kids on ponies, I asked if we could get passed on a wide track at walk, got passed the two kids ponies and then the adult almost refusing to let us pass almost leaving the kids, I got passed due to ponios fast walk but the mare got wound up and did her canter on the spot act until she was passed and next to mine. They where just behind us, when we came through a grass feild gate, the next thing i know no word of warnning and they kick off for gallop just behind us pass extreamlly close with no work of warning. Thankfully both of ours took this in there stride. But due to our fast walk we caught up with them again and again they did exactly the same, so this time we circle at the gate and wait to let them go. To find them waiting on the grass at the other side.

Needles to say i was ready to kill, the person in question is very well known and i didn't have the guts to say "hey have some common sence and manners" if they had set off ours that would have been all of us at full tilt across a feild we don't know with horse we don't know, with two young kids on 13HH ponies, in a feild with livestock.

I have never hacked my boy out with more then three horses(not because i didn't want to there isn't any other around lol) and this was his first outting, and I could not have been more proud.

Cake and coffee for anyone who finished this

obviously one set of rules for themselves and a different set for others. If they had done that to my horse he would have raced them lol Well done for keeping your temper you are a better person than me

If they did that to me they'd have 3/4 of a ton of ID galloping up their backsides followed by a mouthful from me when I finally managed to stop him!

keep my temper Just!!!, with kids aswell,

And after seeing the mare bouncing.

Most people where on riding horse/ middle weight hunters and cobs, and there are us two young women on as my sister calls them on snappy leg horses.

Until half way round I got asked why do you ride him in only in snaffles, and tried to explain a harsher bit was no good and he's controlled from my seat, and friend got "well i'd like to say she'll be shattered at the end but i don't think she will" of a lady on the gate.

But for the first time they where brill, we where expecting both of them to be fools. They weren't bothered by the horses just excited being some where new.

And we nearly got in as under 16, but i had to fess up as we would have needed to go round with a adult, and the woman looked quite shoked when i said we where 19 and 22 lol.

Just manners,

Not giving warning before you gallop passed someone, not saying coming through, or on your left. Even on basic over taking.

We had just came off a track walking in to a grass field they followed us through the gate no warning and went,

It could have been a diffrent situaltion, if our horses had taken off to join in and caused a loss of control for their party aswell. And if one of the kids had came off or we upset the livestock my guess is we would have got the blame.

It takes nothing to give pryer warning. Even if on a bome proof horse, but the fact they had seen the mare have a tantrom and act up and still didn't give warning.

And yes it not there responsibility and yes they to are there to have fun. But a lady with a kid on her first ride warned us on our way past after we asked if we where safe to pass, as it had red in its tail, we walked passed made sure we where out of the way before we troted on. How difficult is that?

Yes, I would have been very cross too. That is basic manners in any situation. And certainly protocol on a fun ride.

Reads so much simpler when you put it like that

I was expecting to have to lead him bouncing all over the place for a good 5 miles lol. So was extreamly pleased. And they both loaded first time and traveled well together which was all a first too....
