Ok, so shes on a diet of 'in by day, out by night' plus increased exercise.
Only 5yo so... hows she looking weight wise?

Her weight looks absolutly fine to me....theres nothing you cn do with that grass belly untill you get her doing some hard/constant work...but her quarters and neck look in good shape..cnt see any excess fat, just need a bit of muscle tone now, and getting rid of that grass tummy!

Bit of a grass tummy but it is summer after all. I think she looks absolutely gorgeous and glowing with health. You can practically see your face in the shine on her coat. Whatever you're doing, it's working! (I do have soft spot for liver chestnuts!)

she looks fab , my horse is fatter this year than he has ever been , maybe the weather is to blame , she is a lot slimmer than mine

Topline and muscle is a working progress, shes hacked alot but is very green so schooling is 20 mins a day 5 days a week at the moment, with hacking on top.

I cant possibly give her any less grass than shes having and exercise is at max without overdoing it.

The only feed is bailieys low cal balancer.

have you considered strip grazing or perhaps a muzzle? if she cant be exercised excessively then you need to try something else.

She has a muzzle but i thought it a tad harsh to have her in from 8am to 7pm with (very bad quality hay which she barely picks at and leaves half the haynet) and then out all night with a muzzle- wont it be a shock to her system?

I dont want to decrease the pressure of lammi and increase colic.

Strip grazing isnt an option at my yard unfort.

mine does. Hes in from 9am to around 7am with a small amount of hay then out all night with a muzzle. Hes fine and happy. You have to be cruel to be kind. Id rather him be slim and fit with a muzzle and prevent Lammi than be fat and gorging on grass with an increasing risk of Lammi.
as you cannot increase the work load it seems highly unlikely that any more weight will shift unless you act.

why dont you get different hay if its crap?

Its the hay that comes as part of my livery, although i thought as its crap its probably got less goodness in it so might be good in a bad way? If you see what i mean?!

Would she just get on with it if i muzzled her?
Im worried about causing colic?
I cannot increase her workload anymore than shes doing- i'll burn her out. We're hacking for an hour/to an hour a half (a day) plus schooling 20mins a day plus two hard lessons a week.

you can get better quality and soak it. Have you tried soaking the rubbish stuff?

Its hard to say as every horse is different, mine couldnt work it out to start with but he got there in a few hours.
Colic? highly unlikely but i can understand your concern.

What feed to you have her on?

Baileys Low cal balancer- thats it, nothing else apart from a mint or an apple.

Sorry, i do soak the rubbish stuff- obv its still not good enough for her (she thinks!)- id have thought it she was that hungry she'd eat it anyway.
She does spend the first few hours sulking when she first comes in.

Shes probaly filling her belly on grass and doesnt wanna eat the hay. if shes not eating it i wouldnt worry too much.
Even my boy still comes in tired. he hardly ever eats his hay, and have cut down his hard feed as he wont eat it all.

Let me know how she gets on. Good luck.

if i was you i would def muzzle. im sure with that on and the exercise shes getting she will drop that extra poundage and look fantastic- shes very pretty

nooo dont so that - it defies the whole object of having one on! trust me they can get enough grass through that hole.
Stop being so soft! lol
