Took the youngster out today for the first time in her bridle and she was a star, anyhow bought her back to the field and the TB and coblet where looning round - more my TB, whinnying, rearing, bucking etc.........took the youngster back in the field and the coblet went off to eat the hay, next thing - just got youngster in and taking her bridle off when my normally sweet TB mare lunged at me and bit my finger!!!

it really hurt, i shouted to her and waved my arms about as she looked threatening and she went off then to join coblet for hay. This is the first time youngster has been out the field on her own, they didn't make a fuss when she went and TBH when the TB is out her and the coblet team up and ignore the youngster completely and mostly chase her off. 7
Normally the only one who i take out etc is the TB mare as shes my riding horse and she comes in at night and doesnt seem to get stressed when shes away from the other two, and will hack out on her own.
I cant understand it?? she has never ever tried to bite/kick/pull her ears back at me before, so why now? any horsey behavioural peeps out there who can shed light?

Shes not in season, and she came in afterwards and went in her stable all calmly, although she did look a little peeved off with me when i left her

Thats the thing see, TB has paired up with the coblet and they both chase the youngster off at hay time and the youngster is always grazing on her own whilst coblet and TB are always mutual grooming etc.........TB doesnt mind when she comes in at night and leaves the field to the yard next door - youngster then finds coblet and they graze together - soon as TB is about youngster goes off on her own before she is chased by TB!!

Maybe she's miffed that you decided to spend one on one time with the youngster who she considers to be absolute bottom of the herd? And that it should be HER who decides what happens with the young one, not you?

That is dangerous behaviour whatever the reason and I hope you made her move her feet away from you big time.

Yeah, she soon ran off as soon as she saw me waving and shouting at her.
Just so out of character, i did have a gelding with them but he was a major bully especially to the TB, since he has gone shes clearly lead mare. The others are 2 and 3, shes rising 5

Oh, how upsetting and sometimes it can be the shock of it more than anything

. Are you sure it was you and not the youngster she was aimed at?
