My 15yr old tb mare started coughing about 2 weeks and had a running nose but it was clear,,, the runny nose has gone but she still has this cough. I have started soaking her hay (she has a allergy to haylage) and am feeding it on the floor. She is on a straw bed but has been for the last 6 months......any suggestions will be greatly received, thanks

If it were me ,
  • I would ask then vet maybe put on ventapulmin
  • maybe take bloods in case underlining issue
  • could be viral or bacterial
  • also get some cough mixture make sure all the feeds maybe have oil mixed it so no irritant .
  • Maybe steam her hay rather than soak it so softer to swallow.
  • could be allergy
  • maybe some immune to boost her system
  • I would also put some obios oil in my mask for them to breath
  • and some eucalyptus oil
  • also licorice
  • maybe some stable spray
  • maybe also Global Herbs AirwaysPlus
  • maybe when you ride put easa cough on her bit

Turn out as much as possible
de cobweb the stable to remove dust
don't muckout or put shaving in while she is in there to reduce dust particles irritating the throat

My old horse had a persistent cough. I took him off straw bedding and it improved. Plus the usual wet hay off the floor and as much fresh air as possible.
