My mare is currently on box rest after sustaining a minor suspensory ligament injury (to her proximal nearside fore) she’s now in her first week of trot work 2mins of trot and 45mins of walking every day, so far her rehab has been promising and the leg has shown no signs of any problems. She injured her offside suspensory ligament in the exact same place last June (2020) and recovered really well well from this injury. She has ever so slight thickening at the top of the leg behind the back of her knee, we think this is due to scar tissue and when she’s stood in it can fill a little bit more than all the other legs.
She was shod on Tuesday and today her offside fore is a lot warmer than all the other legs (this is not the first time it has happened 2/3 days after shoeing) the hoof is warm and the leg is also warm and filled compared to the others (her current injured leg is completely cold) she is sound in both walk and trot and the leg shows no sensitivity if you squeeze along the suspensory branch. I’m hoping that she is just a little bit more sensitive to new shoes on her offside fore. We have been doing a lot on hard surfaces due to her rehab program so I thought maybe she could have a bruise (she has front pads with magic cushion under them) she doesn’t have the best heels but they have significantly improved since having pads on for the last 6months. Has anyone experienced anything similar to this ? I’m so paranoid! The vet is telling me not to worry to much as she’s sound and it’s more likely to be shoeing related
thanks so much!
