I have noticed my 4 year old mare had a poo this morning and this afternoon, it was normal until she finished her poo. When she had finished her anus popped out for a a second then she sucked it back in?! I’ve never seen this before in my life and never really seen her poo from behind so I don’t know if she’s done it since I bought her or if it’s a new thing. I have attached a photo to show. Someone on my yard said they have seen many horses do it before and it’s pretty common but I’m not sure and feel uneasy about leaving it. I don’t have much money as my other horse is having treatment for ulcers which is over a thousand pounds...please no hate comments I’m only young and have never seen this before, thank you. As long as the rectal mucosa goes back in immediately its probably not a problem... I've never seen this, but apparently it does happen... If the prolapse stays out call your vet. It would be worth mentioning next time your vet is there..
