My mare is pretty much a happy hacker but she hates hacking on her own. She is fine with other horses and she's even fine when my dad walks next to me, but as soon as she is on her own, she constantly tries to turn back and will walk really slow until i turn her back. I end up turning her back as im worried she'll hurt herself or get into a panic. Any advice would be appreciated!!

dont turn her back, sit there and keep asking her to walk forwards. If it is pee taking then someone walking behind her to move her forwards usually helps. lots of leg and back it up with a stick. If she ios o.k with others then she is not scared as she knows where she is going. you also need to be very confident giving and push her on.

Just a matter of you both getting your confidence going together. The ultimate initial aim is to get her to go on a circular route by yourselves. First do the route with another laid back horse at least 30 times and then start to do it by yourself. If your horse wants to do it slowly then let her do it slowly but aim to do the complete circular route. You need to try to do this on a daily basis which I appreciate is difficult at this time of year so start when the daylight hours are longer. Good luck.
