Today is the day!
My mare who some of you may remember is being scanned today between 11 and 1. She doesnt appearto have come back into season but given the time of year etc it may just be down to that. I hope she is and also hope she isnt in foal if that makes sense! I hope she is as she had 10days of covering so i hope after all of that something good comes from it.
I'll post later when i have news!
Please everyone keep your fingers crossed

result - not in foal

i guess i now have a few options:
A) sell my mare and just buy a foal - i wanted to breed my own though and i dont know what i would get for the mare TBH - i bought her as a proven broodmare....
B) use my free return with the same stallion
C) originally they said i could swap stallions if she didnt take - as far as i know, there would be 4 stallions standing next year. i have met 2 of the others and i dont feel they are right for my mare, their newer one is by Handel i believe from memory but it will be his 1st season...
D) rob a bank and start again with a new stallion.

life ay! hubby isnt amused about it all!

Sorry to hear that, i know how you feel i have had a whole summer of crosing fingers but my girl scanned in foal last week, so at least i had the end result eventually.
I suppose it depends how long you are willing to wait for a foal, if time doesn't matter too much then you could just use your return next year.

I don't know what to say... she has been through so much at that stud, so I can understand why you do not want to send her back there. Is there any way you could get your stud fee back due to how unhappy you were with their treatment of your mare???

What are the other stallions lines who are there at the moment?

Oh bum not the result you wanted.
TBH i would just send her somewhere with a decent track record, as a proven broodmare she should be easy to get in foal even if she needs a little tweaking.
An experienced stud should be able to sort it out easily though.

There is maybe option E to consider too - you use this stallion for AI keeping your mare at a reputable stud vets to do the AI. If you thought this stallion was right in the first place, it seems sensible to try again next year, but not to send her back to that stud.

Hi There, was wondering how you getting on. So sorry to hear. It turns out I've also been unlucky too as my mare has lost hers in the early stages. Gutted is an understatement.

Feeling a bit numb now but just wanted to send good vibes to someone else with sh!t luck this year - All the best with whatever you decide to do next.....

Thanks everyone.

The good thing is that the vet said everything looked as it should inside my mare, so thats 2 vets who have said that this year. I think it will be interesting to see if any of the other mares he has served this year have taken, but something tells me i will never find out about that - the risk you take with unproven stallions which i knew about but as the vet said, very few are infertile.

ZipZap - So sorry to hear about your mare, that must be a rollercoaster ride of emotions, waiting to see if she is, being told she is, then her sadly loosing it. I hope your mare is ok. Have you thought about wha you will do next?

TangoCurly - sadly they dont offer AI for any of their stallions at the moment. BUT, i have though that i could take her to be covered, and bring her straight home as i have a box, and it would only cost me the petrol money and the stud isnt too far away.

_JetSet_ - i really dont think there is much point in me asking for my stud fee back as i very much doubt i would get it. Plus if i moan too much about the place i wont be able to use the return if i want to. The other stallions they stand are a hanoverian, who yes i like, and would have used on my late mare (how i originally found the place) but he is too bulky for my mare. They also have a coloured who TBH is nothing special IMO, however, i have recently seen him jump and hmmm, but i guess he would 'do' but i dont want to use a stallion that would 'do' as whats the pont of breeding something plain and just not right. I guess you all know what i am saying. this stallions sire got the SHOC International world achievement award for his numerous wins and Supreme Championships through the years but TBH, i never really have considered him with my mare. As of 09, they plan to stand another who is by Handel, not seen him in the flesh but appears to be again too chunky for my mare, hes also young and only expected to make 16hh. I guess IF i went back, the coloured is the next one on the list of not being too chunky. But i would have to go and actually have a good look at him. I'm going to look at other stallions before i decide - so if anyone knows of any

My plan now if to try and ride my mare - i bought her as a broodmare but she used to be ridden and was out competeing (jumping) until the old owners found out they had bought a pregnant mare so fingers crossed she will be a good ride!

I totally understand you wanting to keep going with getting your mare in foal & exploring all your options on what to try next if that's what you decide to do.

At the moment, I haven't the heart to go through this again. I've invested a massive amount of time, emotional energy and finances - £1k pretty much!!!, (which I really could've put to dozens of other good uses.....a better holiday for my family for starters 'cos ours this year was seriously modest!!!) I really think I've reached the end of the road with this as a project for me but I may not feel this way in the future, who knows???

I'm going to increase my mare's workload then get her out with the local hunt a couple of times & also see if I can do some competitions over the winter if my dodgy back will allow. Good luck with your mare, hope you get to enjoy her in a ridden partnership soon & that you have much better fortune if you try breeding again next year x

You could always get a mobile collection service to come out and collect from the stallion using a jump mare when you needed the semen

In all seriousness - there have been some serious failings in terms of the service they have provided for you (from what I've read of your experiences)! They should be bending over backwards to help you next season!
