Hey I have a mare who was diagnosed with arthritus in her fetlock joint a number of years ago on her front near leg. It was due to her hooves growing turning towards eachother. She is around 20 but still full of going (hacking). I get her shod by a remedial farrier with a raised heel and rolled toe shoe and she is as enthusiastic as ever and I would hardly know she suffered from any ailment until I turn a circle.
Back to the problem...
When she is stabled at night her two rear lower legs swell substantially but when i take her for a short hack they go back to normal. I presume it is something to do with circulation. Do you recommend any supplements or exercise regimes. 24hr turnout is not an option during winter.

Hi my old lady has the same problem (23) but no arthritus ,i have had a chat with my vet and we have put it down to old age , this year i have put her in the foaling box for more room to move and so far she's been fine and i do try to keep her fit as i find as with all us oldies it keeps everything working:)
My old lady is 14hh JA pony who has had a very hard working life (which she's loved) and is still going strong and now doing pony club with my daughter .
I have tryed joint flex stuff and top spec senior but not seen any real difference only to my bank account :(
