I thought I would post some pictures of my mum riding her ex-racer at a dressage clinic today as i'm very proud of them both!

My mum got Red (posh name 'Venice Road') just over a year ago now and when she got him he had been chasing all his life, he was trianed by Venetia Williams and had jumped round Aintree. When she got him he had not done any flat work at all!! He also hadn't been sat on for 3 months when she got him :). My mum is not the bravest rider, and when she got him she had lost confidence falling off her old horse but she loved Red right away.

They have come on so so much together and my mum has totally re-trained him herself and has pretty much been the only person to ride him. Last week however she took a nasty fall from him, they had a missunderstanding while jumping and she hurt her neck really badly in the fall. Shes Ok now but she had lost a bit of confidence again and she was even thinking about giving up horses all together :(.

She picked herself up though and even though she was nervous she took him off in the lorry to do this clinic today :) :-

Warming up:-

She had so much fun and the trainer and myself were pleased to see her so happy. They also did a stonking medium trot at the end which unfortunatly I was so :o I didn't catch it on camera! I think my mum and her horse might just be a little bit talented and I really hope she can believe in herself. They are out to do their first Novice BD next tues and fingers crossed they have a nice day out as the pair of them deserve it :) :D

Thank you for your nice replys everyone, she doesn't come on here but I'll make her read this, she will be so pleased :)

They look great together - I too am a bit of a nervous mum rider. She is inspiring.

Where did you get Red from? Something like that would suit my daughter

He is just gorgeous and she has clearly done a wonderful job with him. He looks very happy in his new career, which must have been a huge change for him, and that must be down to your mum entirely so well done her!

Keep us posted on their BD debut :)

We got him off a friend of a friend who brought him off venetia Williams to point to point but he had got tired of racing by then and didn't want to do it anymore.
I've also got an ex racer who I brought off a lady on here and he is fab too (chestnut in my sig). My late grey (also in my sig) I brought out of the ascot sales programme.
They are everywhere, you can ring the trainers direct and they will often sell them for next to nothing. Just make sure you get one with good conformation, that has retired injury free and that has a nice temp.
The 3 that we have had have all been gorgeous quality horses that are sane and have really looked after us. Lots of lame/messed up/poorly conformed out there tho so you do have to choose carefully :)

As another mum (lacking in confidence rider) here I say your mum and Red look just great together and you'd never know she had a confidence problem she looks fab, good luck to them both for their BD next week :D

Woooowww! Look at him :D I knew him in training at vw's. What a blast from the past!! :D

Good luck with him, such a sweetie im sure you'll have lots of fun xx

Your Mum looks great there, and he is going really sweetly for her.
I understood VW trained her racehorses in flatwork? Don't know where I heard this, throw away remark on Chanel 4 racing, probably. Maybe it was someone else.

Maybe Henrietta Knight. VW didnt whilst I was there.

Thank you for all your replies :)

That's so cool that you knew him Indalo! My mum loves him :). Even though he must been worked hard (being an ex-racer!) you can tell he has never known a bad day in his life, he's a very happy emotionally secure horse :). He came with all his medical history from the trainers yard including every time he had a massage, back man, teeth ect. It seems he was well looked after! :)

Lovely pics, so proud of Firewell's mum too, she was an inspiration to my daughter many years ago and a truly lovely lady, great to see her still doing so well, looking great as ever! Enjoy the BD nxt week, hugs xx
