Well, he finally arrived last night and is doing so well. He is as mellow and friendly as Stella, and they are acting as if they've known ieach other their whole lives. Nothing phases him--city traffic, the oodles of dogs you meet in the city, policehorses, pigeons, stray petting hands. I walked them for two hours along the river and Murray and Stella were in sync the entire time

He did have a pee pee accident last night, but so far, so good today. Weird thing is, he doesn't mark at all.

He's a Golden Retriever/Cocker Spaniel mix (pretty much a Golden head, Cocker body, and weighs 40lbs), 18-months-old, and knows zero commands

Next week, I shall be getting him to the fenced dog parks for some fun, until such time he has good enough recall to go zooming around in Central Park.

He has been a sweetie in every respect, although he growled at Stella this morning when she came close to his toy. My stupid fault for introducing toys too early. Anyway, I gave a growly, "leave it, Murray" and he backed off right away. It is a product of him being a stray for so long, I'm sure.

The toys are back in the cupboard, and obedience classes will be beginning next week.

Anything I can do to ensure this doesn't happen? He is fine with sharing food and water.

You did the right thing....Its to early...esp when u are in the unfamiliar stages....never leave them unsupervised with toys and bone...(which I know u wont anyway)...just worried about our little stells

It is natural to guard toys/food from other dogs but as long as u are there....if he displays the behaviour when u are having play time.....as leader I would also reprimant him...so he sort of gets the idea that its not acceptable.
I would probabley only allow them to have toys together when they are activley playing with u, and never when they are just lying around in the house together.
I dont know why u ask missus....u probabley know more than me anyhow
