Hi
My new 4yr old Welsh D mare goes to a DIY livery tomorrow morning and im SO excited AND nervous as she's going to miss her TB friend. She is currently out 24/7 and the new yard has them stabled at night, im just worried about how she will cope being in at night? She'll be stabled next to ponys and opposite an old mare (who will be her new field mate). She got a lovely large stable and im very happy with the place.
What sort of routine should i start with her?
I work full time and want to ride her as much as possible. She's very green and i don't want her to become stressed by this change so if anyone has some ideas about a nice, enjoyable routine for us both id be very grateful - She's my first horse and i want to do it as best i can.

HELP!

they usually adapt very well to this sort of thing, just make sure there are other horses she can see that are also in and that she has plenty of hay and water to keep her quiet
also turn out as early as possible and bring in as late as possible first off maybe just to ease her into being stabled overnight
good luck with your new horse

Thank you for your reply.

Im just a bit worried about when the owners of the other two (field mates) bring them in before i get from work and my mare will be left on her own and gets into a panic...

You probably need to get the numbers of the other people with horses around you asap. That way you could all help one another and co-ordinate communicate, etc. I hope the other people are nice. How exciting for you!

If you are able to ride her, then perhaps tire her the first day or two so she feels content, and dozy in the stable the first couple of nights.

Lots of hay.

And dead right, astipussy she will adapt very quickly and well, don't you worry yourself. Be calmly dominant, she'll be fine.

Wishing you good luck

I'm like you as I'm bringing hairy mary in from the field and putting her on DIY livery tomorrow. It's also a completely new yard, with new people and after spending years on full livery, I'm now going to attempt DIY! Nervous, but excited at the same time. Daunting, isn't it!
