This is my lovely new horse Mickey, he is a 16hh, 18 year old thoroughbred x hanoverian...I asked for lots of advice on here about whether I should buy him or not! But he passed the vetting (including flexions) with flying colours, so we bought him, and he was delivered to the yard this morning! :D He's really laid back and we had lots of cuddles today, he's a complete sweety and loves to be brushed etc. Worming him did take a little bit of persuasion haha ;) Anyway, went a bit overboard on the pic front (i hope this works as I haven't uploaded pics before):

So, did you make an offer? Did they accept? Do tell!

He looks lovely - and his condition really isn't that bad! He's a little poor, but nothing a few weeks of good grub won't sort out. No idea where the notion of him taking 8 months to sort out came from!

Hope you enjoy him :)

Lovely, yes he needs a little feeding up, but he looks happy tucking into his haynet.

look forward to lots of happy riding reports xxxxx
well done xx

Well, after speaking to my mum, as they had other people interested and we didn't want to lose him, we decided to pay the full price...BUT his saddle is a fieldhouse/GFS brown leather one in very good condition, which i think is probably worth quite a lot anyway? and he came with 2 bridles, a few rugs etc, and it means i can just get on and ride. I love him to bits already, he's the most affectionate horse i've ever known! :) I don't really know how to get the pics to work so im just pasting the links?

I think you got a bargain. The saddle is probably worth a few hundred alone.

Hope you really enjoy him - he looks like a lovely chap and I'm sure you'll have a lot of fun with him. And condition wise, he really looks okay - I should have thought a month or so of good food and hay and he'll look a different horse.

I've seen all your pictures on facebook all ready because i met you at a party last night (Small world!) but hope you get on well with him :)

Congratulations!!! You have your own horse - how amazing is that!!:D

I am sure he will build up his topline soon but dont worry about that too much enjoy every moment!

He is fine condition wise, he looks a little on the poor side as has no topline and muscle. Once he starts to work over his back his stomach will tighten and neck will come up. I would expect him to round out quite a bit with consistent work. That might well take a while - depending on whether or not he was ever worked properly before hand (like us, horses muscles have "muscle memory"). Probably worth still getting his back and saddle checked before you start working though as well - his current "shape" suggests he has not been worked a lot recently which means your saddle may need some playing around with. Might just be temp pads but definately worth checking out. My youngster has been off for just under 3 weeks as ill and I just checked my saddle on him last week - he has already lost sufficient muscle to warrant reverting back to a pad.

I actually don't buy the old "other people after him" story, but thats irrelevant as you wanted him and most importantly - he puts a smile on your face!

As he is quite nice looking (and will look even better when he is muscled correctly) you might want to think about taking him to some veteran classes next year...
