Hi all - my new boy arrived a week ago.... haven't been able to get the saddler out yet as he had a bit of ringworm... fingers crossed we are nearly there with that!!! I have some piccies below but was wondering if any of you could help me find out what his breeding could be? He is 15.1 and 5 yrs old.

Here are the pics:

As for his passport, it is a WHITE Irish Horse Register passport. I have bought him from a reputable dealer however she never re-registered his passport... so on there there is only one previous owner before me (an irish man). The breed has been left blank, as have the sire and dam etc. The breeder details are blank. The only details are those of who the passport was originally registered to.

The dealer told me that all she was told is that he is an Irish "halfbred" - what on earth does this mean?

Many thanks

Fiona xx

I guess it could mean that he's something like connemara x Tb , his legs look quite fine so i would bet he's got some tb in there somewhere. My boy has the same white irish passport , again with no details of sire or dam but he is a reg ISH , it's annoying when there's a lack of info , it doesn't take much for someone to fill the poxy thing in, IMO .. having said that i did write to the first owner on the passport , the lady who bought my boy as a yearling and broke him in so i could get a bit of background info , but not about his breeding..has the ' irish man' got an address , it could be worth dropping him a line?

Lovely horse, looks like you found a gem! :) He seems a similiar sort of build to my mare - lovely HHOers helped me play a guess the breed game and they guessed Welsh Sect D X TB :)

ETA sorry pic is massive!!

As already mentioned I reckon TB x welsh section D.

'half bred' is a term used by old fashioned dealers ( and probably others! ) to mean half TB or 'blood horse' as they tend to call them. They use it to determine the amount of TB in a horse so a 3/4 TB is termed as '3/4 bred' etc.

He really is lovely, looks like you'll have a lot of fun together :)

In Ireland my understanding of the term half bred would be part TB part Irish Draught which makes up a large percentage of sport horses in Ireland if he was bred in Ireland. Generally they would be bigger than 15:1HH but my gelding is the same size and he is TB/Irish Draught Cross. Good Luck.

He looks very much like a Connemara pony I had when I was a child. I may be wrong but probably has some ID if he has a ISH passport though? Nice pony!

eeek thanks all :)

The lady guessed he was IDx something. I am actually surprised by the TB bit - I hope he did not inherit the breakability aspect!!

I've written a letter to the other person who was registered on the passport, with a SAE so hopefully he might reply!

Thank you all for replying xx
