Hello I havent been on here in ages. With the end of the wedding season and settling in a new horse plus being in hospital!
Dizzy is settling in beautifully. The day she arrived she just went in the new horse paddock and soaked in her new surroundings. We had some lovely grooming sessions and spent some time in the school with no head collar or leadrope and she had a good calm sniff around (didn't spook at the nesting pigeons, the panel that bangs in the wind or people going up to the tack room on the balcony). Week 2 she went in with the other mares and asserted herself very quickly, not nastily just made it clear that she wasn't going to be picked on. She has a couple of friends that she likes to have grooming sessions with! We then started lunging with more ground work (she follows me round the school with no headcollar or treats walking behind me, stopping when I stop and walking when I walk) with lunging she listens very well on both reins and we have just started canter work.
She had her saddle fitted last thursday where we lunged before I jumped on (as I was a bit nervous) Got on her and she was perfect! We did a short lunge and riding session on sunday where again she did everything she was asked! We then had our first lesson on monday with my dressage trainer, again lunged first and then ridden. She went into outline very easily and could hold it well and we tried some leg yields where she was a bit like 'ooh mum I don't understand' but after a few she was really listening to my leg. We finished with a beautiful trot in outline where she even tracked up lovely (always end on a positive) she was quite tired after all that only being 4 and all and this is the beginning of her work but I could not be prouder!
Only downsides (not that I care I love her so much) She lost a shoe on saturday haring round with the rest of the girls but she was fantastic for the farrier on monday. She is a messy bugger!! Seriously she poos for britain and then rolls in it! She also likes to throw herself in the biggest mud puddle in the field and roll enthusiastically in that! Minor things though haha!
I am so happy we are just going to go nice and slow she is my horse for life so there is no point in rushing.
Going for our first hack this weekend too eeeek :D
Now for the picture will have more soon!!!
