hello
im new to the forum and have had my 2 year old warmblood a week now im just a bit concerened at the amount she sleeps. I bring her in in the morning and if shes not already asllep in the filed shell go straight to sleep after breakfast and stay asleep for most the morning is this normal?
She goes in the field during the night and stabled for day im feeding her a scoop of yearling mix twice a day with a handfull of pony nuts bit of garlic and oil. Her old owner had her on the same but with a scoop of racing nuts rather than a handfull of pony nuts but i felt she didnt need all that energy but could this be why shes so sleepy? or is it just the heat? or dehydration (i give her a lot of water but she doesnt drink much of it surely if shes thirsty shed drink more i have been soaking her hay which i stopped today so i can monitor how much she drinks)? or maybe shes growing? or i could just be worrying to much? any advice would be greatly appreciated

Helllo, and welcome

.

Could be because she is in a new place; because it's been so warm; because of her age and she is growing and therefore quiet; or because she has a virus of some sort.

Maybe get your vet to take some bloods and see what they say.

im going to phone my vets tomorow they took bloods when she was vetted last week but i think they would only check them if something was queried about the vetting? will see what they suggest.

I wouldn't think it's cause for worry. My 4 yr old warmblood loves her bed - regularly goes back to bed after breakfast, for an afternoon nap and then is probably down for a good bit of the night too. She has done this since she was a foal.

Some are just more prone to it than others - good sign though cos she obviously feels secure in her surroundings.

My 2yold warmblood girls sleeps for England. If out at night she comes in, has her breakfast and then sleeps till lunch using the banks as a pillow. She then sucks up her haynet and naps again. If she is in at night she goes out in the morning, has a wizz around with the other young girls and then they all have a team nap with one of the grandmas standing guard. She's done this since I bought her a year ago. I was told they grow while asleep.

Thinking about it my two year old twin girls sleep about that much too.....

If you are concerned talk to your vet but you should also be pleased that she is settled enough to sleep. Don't forget she's just had a huge disruption in her life (assuming she's moved house) and think how much your brain hurts when you've been learning or travelling.....

Good luck with her.
