Well, I took the advice given here on H&H online after the very sad loss of my terrier Dicky last month, and went and looked at some Parsons Jack Russell puppies down south.

This is what came home with!

Meet Toddy (in his winter woollies - he finds Scotland very cold) !!

14 week old, a few spots, short haired and a few long wire hairs too, AND he DOESN'T BARK!!!! - don't know why, as he does in his sleep, but a friend told me ratting stock Parsons Jacks don't bark 'cos it frightens the rats away! Well both parents are working ratters on a farm in Oxfordshire.

So what do you think of him?

He will of course never take Dickys place in my heart, but maybe he will take up a different place in there in time. For now he is giving me a good reason to leap out of bed and be positive.
Just wish Dicky had been able to meet him.

Absolutely lovely. I really hope your grief eases with time. I know exactly how you are feeling on that one, I got my new puppy today and it can never replace Scooby but it does help ease the pain.

Lush lush lush...and your friend is right, they dont really bark....when they do....well you will see/hear in time...they sort of sound like a demented sea lion! :p :D

He is quite adorable ... it's strange how each dog can touch us and have a different place in our hearts. My current dogs will never replace my prior dogs and they will never be replaced by future dogs. Each are special in a different way and that is what makes dogs such wonderful creatures.

He is SOOOOoooooo different to Dicky, plus he has all this baggy skin and a face like a little ol' man! Different personality, which is for the best, as I would not want to compare. He does things differently too, quite happy with a pigs ear to gnaw every night, that would bore Dicky to pieces.
As you say Galupy, all special in a different way. Never realised how wonderful dogs until I owned one as an adult though.....

I am still crying over Dicky - he was irreplaceable and I still get panicy when I realise I will never see him again. Its going to take some time until I can look back without the pain of his loss clouding the happy memories.

I can't see a photo

But, really pleased you have a new little chap - was so touched by your and your OH's tribute to Dicky, and I often wish my previous dogs could have met my current ones as think they would have had a ball together.

Here's to many many happy years with Toddy, and judging from your photos of Dicky, he will be a much loved and pampered boy :)

He looks gorgeous :D Whereabouts in Oxfordshire did he come from? We could do with a couple of good ratters coming to the farm at some stage - our dogs try hard but don't seem to get any
