No it's not THAT gold one, let's not get too excited people, it's the plain black one. It's surprisingly light, so much so that you're not quite sure you have a hat on, has a very interesting adjustment system and feels like it would allow quite a bit of air to circulate although I'd have to wait till summer to let you know about this as we have snow at the moment!

Here it is (I am giggling because OH was taking the piss out of me for photographing myself for the internet!):

The cheaper one!!!! I couldn't quite figure out the difference between the two versions so opted for the cheaper one to see if I liked it.
I have the same one as you and love it (bough it when I was out in Aachen). I bought it for the summer, but ended up liking it so much I wear it all year now! The way it adjusts is much better than most hats available in the UK I think - it never feels like it loosens or works its way loose.

According to a guy at my yard there is shortly going to be an official UK stockist of them too!

Cool! Is it one with closable vents? It is so cold here at the moment that I am keeping my balaclava on all the time, which makes my "everyday" hat too tight, but with the Uvex adjustment system on my "posh" hat it is just right! And I had my first fall in mine today and seem fine ;).

It looks super, so much neater, lighter and low profile.

I'm dropping hints about wanting one of these for my approaching birthday - those of you in the UK with one where did you buy it from? I have a huge head, every hat I own makes me look like a mushroom, I need something that is a little less bulk!

PS- I have the Navy UVEX Uvision and I would say it is proper Navy, not too blue. I think Charlotte Dujardin's hat is a Navy Charles Owen and that matches her tails perfectly.

I love my UVEW, it's unbelievable how light it is, and you really do forget you have it on, it's a weird sensation. It is the first hat that I have ever had that I don't get a sweaty head.......amazing! You actually feel a breeze in your hair when you're cantering along :)

Really suits you Booboo's:)

I do hate to say this but it was a Uvex that i came off in, the damage to my head happened right where the vents are. I have two Uvex hats one i used at home which is the Uvex FP3 Active & a Uvision for comps as it looks "more Normal".

The FP3 Active does have slightly more padding than the Uvision but in all honesty it didnt help much as it was the vent that hit the floor. I got left with the biggest bump on my head, which turned out to be far worse. Ive had lots of fall in which i have really cracked my head but all in hats which where significantly more padded inside & none of them left me with a huge lump like the Uvex did.

When i was well enough to get back on i refused point blank to wear the Uvex & went back to my old champion ventair. Now i have a PROtector, i really loved the Uvex for it's coolness & the fact it was lightweight but i just feel there not substantial enough.
I now have a Black Uvision helmet that i will be putting up for sale.

That is worrying...

I have a navy Uvex, which is very light and lovely...

The brim has fallen off though and I have temporarily super glued it back on until I find a replacement. I have to say, I don't think I will be replacing it with another Uvex.

The Uvex safety standard is only EN1384, so not very good, I am suprised that people buy these with such a minimal standard as opposed to the Protector mentioned above which is the safest hat in the world, or the Champion also mentioned which has PAS 015. A close friend of mine is recovering from a brain injury sustained in a freak accident while riding at home, she was wearing a PAS standard hat thank God, her recovery has been long & slow so I feel very strongly about this & would suggest that we should all buy the safest available hats.

That is very worrying dressagecrazy! Glad you weren't more seriously injured! Do you think you hit a flat surface or was there something protruding on the ground that might have exaccerbated the problem with the air vents?

kizzywiz: I had a bit of a look at the different standards before deciding, but it's difficult to find detailed information. I found an overview from BETA which suggests that EN1384 and PAS 015 are now equivalent (certain differences which made the PAS 015 LESS comprehensive were changed in 2011 if I read the text correctly). Snel E201 is the new standard which does represent higher impact forces in some situations which I think PROtector passes but not many other hats. This is the document I read:
http://www.beta-uk.org/media/safety/download/BETA Guide to Riding Hats Shortened for Booklet.pdf
I did ask OH about all this (BSI certified risk assessor) but he said that unless you look at the standards in detail it's difficult to compare, and I am not sure where this information would be available (even if available it's likely to be too technical for me to be able to compare the options).

I have a problem with overheating which is significantly worse in the south of France, so I weighed up the risks of getting too hot with a PROtector versus the risks of a Uvex without Snel. I am considering getting a PROtector for the winter but the price is a bit off-putting!

Hi I've got the uvex fp3, I got it because I loved the idea of the detachable ear muffs that you can buy to go with it.
I bought it from scholckemole sports mail order, so never tried it, when it arrived I thought the fit at the sides was a little loose, not as good as my Charles Owen, so decided not to jump in it.
I've now been bought a KEP hat for christmas to compete in for sj and dressage, when we got it at olympia, I commented that the fit felt loose at the sides like the uvex, but I was told by the fitter that was how they were and the manufacturers were happy with this type of fit.....?
So I'm going ahead and competing in it as it matches my lovely new Animo jacket, but do they protect me as much as my 'ordinary' Charles Owen...... I'm not sure if I'm honest......

Do you not feel it tightening as you adjust the mechanism at the back? Mine was a very good fit (after it was adjusted), I can vigorously shake my head and it doesn't budge at all (without the strap). Sounds like yours doesn't fit you very well to be honest. I have a funny oval head and not all hats fit equally well (I have a Charles Owen Ayr that fits well).

Hi the strap does tighten around my head, but the i can still feel space at the sides of my head, i haven't really shaken my head to be fair, but I am aware with both hats that if I place my hands on either side of my head, I can rock the hat from side to side, whereas my CO just feels lower and more snug at the sides, but maybe part of it is both these hats are the more modern low profile hats and that this is how they fit..... ESP if CO suit you, as I thought my head shape was the problem....:D

I love the idea of them and think they look great. I really need a new hat as since I have worn my current one so much especially over the summer, it smells soooo bad and had all faded.
Dont know where I would buy one in the UK though :/ I know they were manually adjustible but you still have to choose small, medium or large and dont know which one I would be.

Topaz Tiger: I do find I have the same problem with some hats, I can fit a finger either side, so I think it's just a case of trial and error to find the ones that fit you. I have seen people look really nice in the new Fiona and I look like I have an egg on my head!

rowy: they come with a cm measurement, so XXS-S is 52-55cms and you can measure the circumference of your head to see which is most likely to fit.
