my normally relaxed mare has gone loopy, am I alone?

So my normally saintly (although opinionated mare) has turned into a hormonal nappy idiot and I was wondering if I was alone or if the freaky weather is affected anyone else's mare?

It has been so warm lately and the mares at my Yard just don't seem to know whether they are coming or going at the moment.. How are your girlys behaving and do you want an annoying brown and white lump of a horse for free?
 
my friends mare has become very grumpy the last couple of weeks, seems hormonal, but not really the same as when she was in season over the summer. think it may be the weather and change in grass content. she is just being extra stroppy, on the ground and ridden. my mare is being more grumpy around feed time but not much different from her normal marishness!
 
My normally chilled big mare was spooky to hack a week ago, and little mare is buzzing at the minute (though I blame that on clipping despite wearing an exercise sheet!). My youngster is also more on her toes. All are mares but I feel its more a combination of the grass flush and recently windy conditions for mine! :)
 
Geldings too! My laid back boy was a nightmare today in the wind. And we've had him threatening to buck the last few rides out...sheer excitement and kicking up his heels. Not had that in 4 years of ownership!
 
I would say the grass is definitely a part of it... We did 5 mins in the middle if a field today spooking at a bush blowing in the wind with added rearing and broncing thrown in... Was interesting (I won of course) but I did have to listen to the whole strop first. I'm going to hold off from clipping yet, that would be classed as suicide lol
 
My chilled gelding has turned into an idiot too! Spooking at everything and it's so frustrating lol could only school in walk today because of it and jumping on Tuesday was very interesting... Got to jump tomorrow then going on a group trip to clear round/ arena hire for the first time on sat... Might take some superglue haha!
 
My normally laid back cob (nick named the donkey) has suddenly turned into a nutcase! We nearly parted company last night because a tiny bird and i mean TINY shot out the hedge apparently warranting running away including a broncking fit to challenge any western and a few cat leaps thrown in to! didnt think he could get his fat self that far off the ground let alone cordinate his legs!! he then turned into a snorting dragon for the rest of the session!!

he was a bit on his toes out on our last hack to and spooky ;)

Think its a mixture of weather and grass! and he isnt even clipped yet which usually gives him more oomph! asking myself dare i give him more oomph right now lol ;)

Love this description, this is my mare on one of her bronc-a-thons, how do they get their incredible bulk airbourne, mine 'could be' season related but she's done it 4 times over the last 4 months so not a 'recent' thing. This weekends ride could be fun if the wind keeps up! Im moving her too so - when you're done posters, please can I have a go on your super glue??

i am still wondering how his uncoordinated bulk actually left the floor haha he has only done it once before in the year and a half i have owned him;)

i am clipping him tommorrow so sundays outing to the woods if its still windy should be fun, i may also need the superglue :)
 
:(My usually laid back boy spun and bronced yesterday resulting in us parting company. Put it down to weather , it was a bit windy and rainy, guess it could be grass too. He's never done that before. I didn't like it !

Nope your note alone, mine normally relatively quiet TB mare has recently been hooning around the field like a crazed idiot, was spooking at leaves moving across the driveway this morning. We also have a plastic owl ornament which she walks past everyday, well in the wind its wings flap......she hasn't seen it move before completely lost her mind flattening me in the process!

I wasnt to keen on my lads exploits either lol! Think it is just the time of year and weather. Its awful when its out of chararter but dont worry :)
 
My fruit loop just had a hissy fit as I thought I would pop ner neck on as its cold tonight, should've have thought of this thread, wind caught the neck after I got one clip on so if flapped at her in the semi dark, cue nutso jumping then as the 'thing grabbing on to her neck' was following her she did 6 laps of the paddock at full whack, almost took me out when joined by her 4 year old mate, mate thinks a few bucks and ditch jumping would also be good. Good news though no broncing! When she stopped she allowed me to remove said horse eating neck! Why do we bother. Glad when the wind drops!
 
The skinny one attempted to deck me the minute my weight hit his back this afternoon.

The fluffy one wasn't ridden, but was a pig on the ground. Inclusive of full ballet routine (on 2 legs) and flurry of hooves rather too close to my face.

I'm not impressed.
