My choice today was to take Spider to NH for SJ or go out with the bloodhounds on a hound ride
Although I thought the hound ride would be great fun, I decided I might be pushing my luck, with doing to much with Spider too soon, as he's already exceeded all my post illness expectations. Plus they'll be loads of times to go out with the hounds if things continue to go to plan
So after getting in at midnight after being out on a Hen night
I got up at 6.30am, with the plan to do the clear round, 75cm & if it wasn't mad busy the 85cm.
However when I went to get Spider in from the field, his field mate decided he wasn't going to let me & chased Spider away.... & then the 2 of them hooned madly round the field for 10 mins, with me standing there telling them it was v early for all this and not funny
Finally they gave up & Spider was caught & v v hot. At least my warm up was done
& I have less concerns about going out with the blood hounds now
First the clear round - After doing a few fences in the warm up, we went in & he popped round nicely. I feel we are now getting into a real rhythum with our jumping & I'm letting the fences come to me & let him jump out of his stride.
The first class was delayed by about 45 mins as a poor girl, who was one of the last clear rounds, got bucked off when her horse bronched after the 2nd fence. It looked a really innocuous fall, but goes to show that if you fall awkwardly you can really do some damage. They were concerned about her neck & back, so she was stabalised until the ambulance arrived & then they got her onto a spinal board with a neck brace & took her to hospital.
I hope she's ok & nothings broken, & if you're a HHO'er let me know how you are.
The first class started about 10am & there were 10 fences, 2 doubles & about 40 entries. Spider was one of the first to go & flew round to go clear. There was no fence I would have ridden differently & I was delighted with him
11 of us got through to the jump off & we were 2nd last to go. There were some very speedy rounds but only 2 clears when I went in. I could feel he was slightly tired & although he still jumped really well, he just flattened coming out of the double of uprights & had the second part. I also saw a really long one to the last (sorry Spider
) but he went from where i asked & cleared it
We finished 7th, so just missed out on getting placed.
I decided as he'd gone so well & it was now midday, plus he was a bit tired, that we'd not do the 85cm. So he had drink & some hay & I had lunch before heading home & turning him out for some well earned grass.
Thanks for reading
Natsuk - I think you were there, but didn't get a chance to say hello.Hopefully we'll meet up next time.
