House to stable less than 30seconds walk.I often find my self popping over to my boys stall to say hello to him of an evening during the adverts if we are watching t.v  As he is stabled alone I like to give him a rub quick chat and find my self removing any poop !
Finally before I go to bed I pop over one last time too poo pick. I think I am obsessed as I hate the thought of him sleeping in a mountain of poo, plus its easier to clean in the morning when its not all trampled in.
Are these the symptoms of a new dad ? Is any one else as odd as me
My OH just does not get the horsey thing :( and thinks I am nuts lol

Your house/land sounds lovely, you lucky thing.

My OH didn't get the horsey thing either, then he watched the Martin Clunes horsey programme (can't remember the name of it now!) and Jennifer Saunders 'Back in the Saddle'. He now understands why I devote so much time to my boy, and he has even started coming to my lessons to video them for me :)

The downside is that he is so despeate to win favour with my horse, a bag of treats lasts about two days

I think some horses actually enjoy lying in a mountain of poo :o I would prob do the same though. I don't feel the same way about housework though.

I used to live right on the yard and dashed down to give my horse an apple core during the adverts of a brilliant film. There he was face covered in blood  He had rubbed his eye and caught it on something tearing the lower eyelid. I never did see the end of the film as had to get the emergency vet out. :o

So good job I popped down to see him.

However, with another film :o - The Belstone Fox - I turned the sound right up and opened the window so he could hear hounds and the toot toot of the horn. Such a bonkers idea, he jumped out of his stable :o and legged it up the drive looking for the hunt (in his pyjamas).

Ours are at home too. In the summer they are out at night, in winter out by day. I usually walk the dogs past them last thing at night and have a quick check of them, but don't poo pick - I spend enough time doing that during the day, I want a few hours away from it! One does all her droppings in the corner, the other is a warthog that ploughs all the muck into his bed and lies in it. Doesn't matter how often you take the muck out you can't win! I do top up water and fish ice out of buckets etc though and have a cuddle with the cuddley warthog.

Mine would be most miffed if you removed all the poo, he likes doing 'designs' on himself in the night, poo is a good ear warmer dontcha know

Hi Honey08! I have the same regime, out at night in the summer and in during the winter but I try to string summer time out for as long as possible. You're not alone, Armas, I always pop down to the yard on winter evenings just before bedtime to poo pick and check waters, it makes mucking out easier in the morning, its a lovely peaceful time and just once I found one quite happily cast so it was worth the cold walk in pyjamas!

Chortle! Don't feel rude, I am! She did really well, clear in the first round, one stop at a humungous oxer off a tricky stride in the second and rolled the last pole but she was so pleased with the pony! Team total 24.

He was the smallest there by a mile at 13.1

Sorry Armas for the thread highjack, I'll go away now.....

My OH doesn't understand either. I pop out late mainly to put in their last ration of hay but I will skip out if necessary, very often in my PJ's and wellies. OH sits there tutting and sighing :D but i just ignore. He gets especially stroppy if i'm not back before the end of the adverts and he has to pause the tv, haha.

OH finally 'gets it' after 3 years.
He is however hopeless at keeping track of time and frequently asks me 'where have you been?' as if its been 5 minutes after we've had a cup of tea together...when I've actually been out to paddock (in view of the house), groomed, tacked up and then been for quick hack.
Horse lives out now but for first 2 winters I made 2 trips to stable each evening for a cuddle and always to skip out poo piles, I just could NOT leave them there :p
Needless to say OH never really noticed!

I do this for the whole yard, not just my own. My yard is next to the house, so I'm forever legging it out to check rugs and re-apply suncream. I also do late checks at 11pm every night, when all of them (my horses and liveries alike) get more haylage, water and are skipped out quickly. Also really useful for rugging up hunters that have come in late and need a thermatex and their heat lamp on to dry off for a while before bed, and for getting an extra feed into my old boy.

We're all as mad as each other.

Me and my OH never argue (I know, we're strange) but its come pretty close these last couple of days: my pony is in 'horspital' undergoing tests to find out why she doesn't want to work. I know my OH isn't interested in horses but I'd like to think he's interested in me and would therefore show some concern/understanding. But no, he's really not interested.

My OH doesnt quite understand it either bless him, but he knows its my passion and he supports me. Its not always been easy but he understands it all so much better now and he even asks me about what I have been up to when it comes to the beast.

I consider myself lucky:D

I have only had my horses at home for a few months and was popping out just before bed to check them. I was ill for a few days so my OH did it for me and when I was feeling better I went to check them and was told that I didn't need to do late check now as he does it. I didn't know whether to be put out as I like the late night pony fussing or pleased that OH was enjoying doing something with them.
In the summer he started putting fly masks on them before he went to work as he hated seeing them with flies on them. I'm just pleased he's taken an interest on his own initiative rather than because I've asked him too. I do enjoy the nights when he is working away and I get to do the late check :0)

Oh lucky you, with an interested OH. Mine is scared of horses and only comes along or helps if I ask him. I do the late night feed and poo pick too; don't like the idea of them lying in muck - not that they care in the least......

My OH is not really interested in the horses either but in the middle of the night last week there were two horses squealing and running around, he shot out of bed to go and check that mine were ok! Didn't know he cared so much, it turned out to be the horses in the field oposite our house as one had crossed the river and left the other one behind! He also says he doesn't like my cats but one of them hasn't been very well and is getting on a bit now and although they have always lived outside this one has decided he quite likes coming in in the evening and sleeping on the chair, my OH let him in last night late and then didn't have the heart to put him out again when he came to bed so left him on the chair all night. He is getting soft in his old age I think!:)

I'd love to have my horses so close, although I'd probably spend all my time checking on them!

I'm so lucky that my hubby likes the horses (more than me I think :p ), if he's been out due to work, he'll often pop up and do them to give me 'the morning/ evening' off. Actually I think it's because he wants some time without me there!

I usEd to do this but then I felt I was disturbing them. They would all look blinded by the lights and a bit disorientated so now last check is 7.30
