Went foal shopping (as you do

) as we're looking for another one to keep our soon to be weaned foal company. Decided that if we were going to spend the money then we might as well buy something decent that we could show etc and then compete when it was older if we kept it.

Went to a local stud and fell in *love* with a v. sweet warmblood filly. Well bred with decent movement - nothing utterly exceptional though......

So the woman invites us in for coffee "to discuss things" - she comes straight out with the fact that she wants £6,500 for it. I nearly died - honestly didn't know what to say - my OH choked on his coffee

Had to make some very polite excuses and leave - much to my OH's relief!!

So, anyone else been caught out like this??

Not had this happened to me but i've noticed that the prices of foals are on the increase. Buying a foal used to be the "cheap" option but most decent bred warmbloods i've seen are way more expensive than say a well bred 3 year old

Or maybe i'm just looking in the wrong place

lol

I'd agree - there is no way I'd pay £6.5k for a foal - that said I think it depends a lot on how realistic the breeder is being

There is another breeder (and fellow HHO

) who is local to us and frankly, her foals are way more realistically priced and easily comparable in the quality / breeding to the one I looked at today......

Think it might take my OH a few days to get over the shock though

My Mum's friend went to see a foal this morning - a little coloured cob type. Was well handled and very sweet apparantly. She nearly died when the breeder revealed she wanted £5.5k for him

You don't think the price of the filly went up exponentially to your degree of 'falling in love' with her, do you?!!!
