My one-eyed wonder

Know this should be in "competition" but wanted to share with everyone. Entered my first ever dressage on my own horse, and at a time I should be taking up knitting! Me AND horsey-o! And horsey-o lost an eye 18 months ago. We only entered the pre-Prelim, walk and trot 6 but Sunny was FAB, everything went RIGHT and we got 70% and came FIRST!!! So keep believing in yourself and your horse and you CAN achieve it! In case they're reading, a HUGE thanks too to my riding buddy who MADE me go and warm up in a FIELD when I was terrified and to my fabuloso YO who was competing herself and still had time to share my moment with me. And to Big Scary Haynet who brought me a cuppa afterwards!

Briarlands Blackberry (I think!) ridden by Tristam Owers competes at CCI**** level with one eye, also countless steeplechasers/point-to-pointers. It can be done!

I would like to add that Sunnymums test was almost word perfect (I watched her). He was so forward going and the test was accurate. A very well done and we look foward to seeing lots of reports in CR.

Congratulations, you must be really proud of yourself and your horse. And I bet you have given encouragement to other people in the same situation. My dog had to have an eye removed due to cancer at 10 years of age and I couldn't believe how well she adapted. Sadly the cancer spread in the end but we had an extra few happy months with her.

Thanks for your thoughts everyone and so glad if it's given hope to one-eyed wonders everywhere. They adapt amazingly well after some initial trial and error stuff like moving the feedbowl away from the wall and expecting sudden turns when dogs bark and horsey-o needs to see what the fuss is all about. My boy has a hand made leather Phantom of the Opera eye patch to protect his eye socket when travelling - he looks a bit like Thingy in Pirates of the Caribbean!!!
