Well, had a lesson on Hugo this morning! Was brilliant! He was so calm and sweet! Did exactly as I asked and listened the whole time
. He even bent better; kept on the track; straight lines straight; circles round!! I think the feed may well have had an effect (although YO doesn't agree) but everyone reckons it was the Hunt really wound him up.
I am keeping him on the reduced feed for now and will work with YO on getting him better in group lessons - she says he just can't cope. He's ok with one other, so that's a good starting point I'd say! He had a couple of lessons in the week and was fine. (I met one of the ladies this morning who has ridden him and she said she loved him! I said to ride him whenever she wants
)
YO was a lot more positive today (I think because she realised I wasn't going straight out to sell him) and said things like 'the more you get to know him and he you, the better it will be' ('course!). She also suggested I take him out for a walk, maybe with my very steady friend and her very steady horse (known as Lovely Bob
) - this is after saying last week she wouldn't let me take him out at all!!!
So, thanks to everyone who offered me all that support last weekend. You are a wonderful bunch! I think it was partly over-reaction by a nervous 'new mum' (although I can't deny I was very scared) and lack of support from YO and possibly yard girl saying what she thought YO wanted to hear (although all the other ladies up at the yard were brilliant, too).
Just keep the positive vibes coming my way and we'll work on things from here. I have a week off for half-term in Feb, so I will go up every day for some 'bonding'. xx
