not sure why, other than i think his mind was else where at the time. i'd tacked him up in the barn and he was a bit tense as the wind was rattling something. i went to pull his leg forward which i always do and he fell down on his knees. i wonder if he wasnt balanced properly but coz he wasnt thinking about what i was doing, he just automatically gave me his leg and down he went. he's so used to me doing this, that he normally offers his leg to me.

obviously a bit of a worry at the time, but no damage done. i jst took him for a short walk after and he's seems ok. i guess he might be stiff by tomorrow if he did hurt himself.

poor, silly pony. :(
 
Mine did that once when I was picking out her hooves. I had hold of one foot & she collapsed on to her knees & looked quite surprised. Hasn't happened again.
 
Its horrible, mine fell on the road once and i was scared stupid something was wrong as it was so sudden and for no reason but she never did it again and seemed perfectly ok after so i put it down to just one of those things- like sometimes we randomly trip over or bash into something!
 
My old boy (17.2hh 24yrs) has a phobia of being tied up on tarmac/concrete/any slippy surface, so I have to either not tie him up, or rubber mat EVERYWHERE! He falls over every five minutes if you tie him up when standing on concrete - he does the "I'm going to fall over because this is very very scary" dance first, and then, for no reason at all other than to prove his point, drops like a stone.

When I first got him this terrified me, but now I have come to the conclusion that he's an arse, and I just try to make sure I don't give him the chance to fall over.

Your boy will be a bit stiff tomorrow - I usually give my lad some bute after his tumbles, and a big cuddle to tell him I love him even though he's a plonker. It's bloody scary though - I think the most frightening thing to see a horse do is lose control and panic when they've fallen over.

thankyou guys. he didnt panic at all, jst took it all in his stride. altho looked a bit shocked once he was up. and he probably wondered why i was hugging him, coz he's not usually huggable. but i hve to say i was thinking there's something wrong with him, messages not getting thru to his brain or something, but then he was fine afterwards. they so love to worry us dont they?!
 
Don't want to worry you, but keep an eye on him. My last horse did this once when i was tacking up, he went down and was just lay like a dog, he looked at me as if to say "Mum, what am i doing down here?" Vet sid it sounded like narcolepsy, but it turned out he was a wobbler.
Hope pony is ok tomorrow, and it was just a one off
