I have a little 11 year old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel & because its been so hot she has ofcourse been boiling too! I am worried about her as she is panting ALOT and is really restless which is making her hotter and panting more, so does anyone have any ideas to help her cool down ? Its a silly post i know but am just worried about her
Thank you x

Wet a towel with cold water and have her lie on it - or just take her outside and give her a good squirt with the hose. You could also try feeding her ice cubes, especially if you're worried about getting enough water in her.

I used to strip out my golden retrievers coat religiously in the summer to get out the undercoat and then I clipped him with Nicky Clarke hairclippers- it really helped him

Im thinking of giving her a good old clip tomorow lol
Just tried the ice cubes and she loves it! Thanks guys !

Well the forecast is for it to cool down from tomorrow onwards. My dogs have been panting too, especially my Springer Spaniel at night. I took the scissors to their coats today - they may not look very professionally clipped, but at least they are cooler. I also shower my dogs off when they're really hot - I do the same with my horses.

Walkies are out of the question until the evening, I took my dogs out at 8pm this evening. Other than that all you can do is keep them in, maybe close the curtains, get a fan, keep their water topped up.

It's a British summer - you know it won't last!

We have a King Charles, and she has been clipped because of the heat. She is still very hot but chooses to lye in the hallway in the middle of the day as the floor is nice and cool.
Hope your doggy cools off soon!!x

I am using a fan to help keep me and the dogs cooler. They are laying in best place to get the breeze from it just like they find the warmest place in winter.
Please, please, please keep your dogs cool. I too am walking my dogs in the later evening and they are not getting their ball to chase at all. They may hate me for it but cruel to be kind IMO.I am also going to walks where they can swim.

There have been several reports of dogs losing their lives in the heat recently.Apparently a couple lost their dog just by travelling in the car, windows down as well. It worries me to bits. I'd never forgive myself.

My two are feeling the heat as well

The border collie more so than the cross. Both of them are lying on the kitchen floor at the mo as its a tiled floor so quite cool for them. Keeping water bowl topped up at all times.

But can someone explain why when they are feeling the heat they insist on laying in the garden in full sun

We have to old kind charles - we have just had them clipped, they still pant but no as much!

I just make sure all the blinds are down in the house to keep it cool and have a fan that they sit in front of !!

Are you 100% that she is panting more because of the heat? We used to have a cavvy and he used to pant alot. we thought at first it was because he was hot, but when it started to get cooler he was still panting a lot (although not so much as when it was hot) he went to vets for some jab and they gave him a general check up and found out it was because he had a heart murmour.

But if yours is healthy and does not have this prob, i like louby's idea of a paddling pool! that way she has a way to cool down outside and if there is somewhere cool she can lay after, she shouldnt get too hot.
