Our Rhodesian Ridgeback is going to go get her nails done on tuesday. She is 11 and detests the vet, well she detests anywhere new or anyone who has not been 'approved' by the family to be honest. She wasnt socialised properly as a pup and has a very nervy nature so anywhere new is extremely stressfull for her.
She is going to have to be put under GA at the vets because she works herself up into a terrible state when they try to even examine her let alone do anything to her.
Because she is a big dog the vets are all petrified of her, so GA is the best option.
I am worried about how she will cope with it, she is an old dog, especially for her breed, and she is slowing down in herself.

Will the vets let me wait with her untill she is put under and be there for when she starts to come round? If we all suddenly abandon her in a strange place we cant guarentee her good nature will remain (if that makes sense). She has never shown a hint of agression towards anything or anyone, She will bark like there is no tomorrow but nothing more. I worry that when she is highly stressed, a bit old and confused and alone she may become dangerous

Realistically... what are the chances of complications with her age and the GA? We have all accepted that we will be lucky if we have another year with her before its time to say our goodbyes.

While im rambling on about the ginger div... her stomach is crazy, It makes some horrible horrible noises that we can hear over the tv. At first it was only bad when she stressed herself out, but its happening more and more often. She is pooping completely normally and is eating normally :s

I wish I could have another 10 years with both of my pooches

I am sure she will be fine, my girl was spayed at the same age and she bounced back in no time. I am sure there is no harm in asking if you can be with her when she comes round.

The most important thing is for you to stay calm, yes, she may be nervous, but if you are nervous because she is nervous, she'll be ten times worse - chill out, it will better for her
