I recently got a mini lop doe and only had her a month. Checked on her the night before, all fine, bouncing around and eating and drinking. Checked on her in the morning and she was dead :( I had a chat with my friend who knows about rabbits and she asked if she was bloated, which she wasn't. She's an indoor rabbit kept in a spare room on the top floor of my house. I have buck in a cage next door to her and he is absolutely fine, as I was worried it may have been VHD in which case he may have it as well. However, I found my doe dead on Wednesday morning and so far my buck is fine. Only thing I can think of is there was something already underlying with her, as she was very small for her age, (my buck doubled in size when I got him at 9 weeks old). Both were bought from the same breeder and the plan had been to neuter them both and bond them :(

Thank you for your comments. Yes they do seem very fragile. Thankfully my other one is fine but now on the hunt for another to keep him company :(

Sorry to hear that :( do make sure your remaining bun is vaccinated against VHD/Myxi in case it was that.

Heart defects and other genetic problems could also be the culprit, especially if the poor little mite was the runt of the litter.

Like someone else said sometimes rabbits just go. I've had lots of bunnies over the years, I've been baffled by a couple who have just gone with no apparent explanation, yet my oldest bun lived till he was 10 and died after a stroke.

Surprisingly complex wee creatures.
