Further to my post about my mightymouse, I left a whole (yes a whole) net of carrots in the tackroom on Monday night at 11pm. At 7am next morning the whole thing had disappeared. I caught sight of the corner of the (completely empty) net peeping out from under the stepstood in the corner. Dragged the rug trunks out and every single carrot (and they were big carrots) had been taken down the hole in the floor of the van body we use as a tack room and laid in neat rows on the ground!

Gonna have to poison them but full marks for hard work!

Did you take a note of the way the carrots were laid out? Perhaps your little (or not-so-little) rodent friends are trying to communicate with you in binary or similar?!

Pinkweasel thanks so much for making me laugh again about your horrid rats. Their cousins in my yard are not quite as bad or more likely I have not noticed them being as bad. They're ignoring the poison though and this week have made themselve a nice new "door" in the back of the stable on the end of the row so they don't have to come round the front and brave the dogs!

Perhaps they were trying "mourse code"!!!

LOL we have a family of rats living in the muck heap at the mo - they must be super rats coz since they moved in the rabbit population has halved....

Ewww no don't think i could deal with that! Imagine tidying the muck heap, you stab your pitchfork in and bring it out with a rat (or two) attached to the prongs !!!

Mine chewed through the plastic container of rat poison that I had put in the tack room ready to put it down (but feeling a bit queasy about doing it so just left it on a shelf)... big mistake! Served them right!!
