After some technical difficulties, my reading has arrived for Jasper. This is the pic I sent:
I asked if he is happy, what he's like me to do more of and what he'd like me to do less of.....
With regards to your boy he is strong, kind and handsome, he is quite a thinker so you would actually feel him assessing situations when you are working together and even occasionally need to give him time to think through a situation. Sometimes horse in readings feel young and he does, he feels that he is a willing learner and enjoying life, he feels that he loves a hooley round the fields with the best of them, but he is getting better at concentrating when you ask him too. I really feel that with him you are part way through his learning stage and still have more to work on.
This is true, he come across as quite young for a 9 year old as he hasn't done much schooling. He is a thinker and needs space to think about new things then come back to them. We are working hard on his schooling at. He does love a hooley round the field, in fact I often joke that he thinks he's a thoroughbred and was born in the wrong body!
He is a lovely willing chap too, he would really enjoy his work, because he enjoys the one to one attention, although on the flip side Liz, you might find that if you stood in the middle of the field for 35 mins he would enjoy that too! I am not saying he doesnt enjoy work, he does but most of all he enjoys working with people.
Again, true. He loves being ridden but mostly just loves comapny. He's not that bothered about other horses, but he loves being around people.
I do feel that he has gained in confidence recently too, as I feel that he would originally be very wary so it is lovely to feel that he trusts you entirely and enjoys your company.
Definitely true. I've had him 7 months, and it's taken time for me to "be the boss" so that he trusts me. I now have the confidence to ride him through tricky situations, and that has meant his confidence has grown too.
I am not sure if you are aware of what happened before you owned him, no one was ever nasty to him but I sort of get a feeling that he was a number not an individual much like I get with ex racers where they havent had love in a personal way (although obviously he is not an ex racer)! I do feel that you have had to work hard to gain the confidence lost in not getting a reaction with the previous owners and you have had to spend time just standing there, and not making him jump by moving suddenly, now he has turned around because he is much more confident.
Not so much! His old owner had 2 horses, and it's true that she would ride the other one much more, but she doted on him and still keeps in touch to find out how he is etc.
I see him again running round with a few others horses so feel that he is happily kept at grass at least part of the time, and again enjoys the company as much as anything else. He seems to like all foods but especially shows me straw! Not sure whether he might have been taken off a straw bed for eating it! It wouldnt have been particularly tasty straw but it would do for him.
Not sure about this, he's not bothered about other horses at all, he's in a field with 1 other and has others in neighbouring fields though so he does have company. He is out 24/7 atm. He definitely loves his food and I believe he would jump through fire for a carrot! I'm not sure where the straw thing comes from. He was kept on straw in winter, but didn't seem to eat his bed.
I do get the word Gypsy but dont see any, so guess he is classed as a gypsy cob? Although that doesnt feel right either. When I do readings I get a combination of words, pictures and feelings popping into my head and I try and just write them down, but the Gypsy doesnt have an association with it eg good or bad feeling, just more like a fact from him. Not sure how to say that but I thought I would leave it in - in case it makes sense to you?
No idea about this one!
He has a lovely walk and trot, really nice square foot placement and a strong back too, he is lovely too look at and would do well shown and I feel that you have thought this too and indeed he may have been shown in the past but then I get the word busy as he was shown last year but someone is too busy now. He has paces that you would call correct which makes for a nice action.
He does have an amazing walk and trot. His canter is not so good though, he's also broken to harness and generally tries to trot faster instead of canter as a result. That's mainly what we're working on atm. He wasn't shown last year to my knowledge.
He is definitely happy Liz, I cant find anything that he dislikes because he would show you anyway, he just does have that issue mentioned at the beginning that he needs time to think and process things, and if you have a lesson planned for 30 mins you might have to give up after 15 mins because he needs to get past the thing just taught to him, in terms of his learning style he is a reflective learner in that he needs to think, process and reflect on what happened before it becomes routine, he would also overload easily in that you can see his head cant take anymore in no way is he being anything but a horse that learns in such a way that requires him to get a sound foundation in one thing before moving on, however the problem (though it is not a problem) for you is knowing how much to do on which day because some days he can take more than others. I dont feel that it is a problem for you because you have realised that there is no point continuing and that when you come back to that tomorrow, he will be with you. I dont want you thinking he doesnt like learning, he does, loves it.

In terms of what would he like you to do more of I actually get the showing, it is as if that is something that he is really comfy with (although I can see that being in hand unless he is being run up in front of someone else it must be in hand showing) he could do that 3 times a week and love the going out and about and staying with you for the day and hanging around eating hot dogs (that surprised me I am thinking the eating hot dogs is you, but hey maybe he is craving hot dogs)! I feel that he would happily be out all day as long as it was doing something he knew, if it was learning something new you would get the take me home signals after a while.
I would like to do some showing with him, and it would probably be in hand until we've sorted out his canter. He probably would eat a hot dog given half a chance!!
I feel that he is good at communicating with you Liz, so that feels that you already have your systems for chatting in place.
I chat away to him for hours if that counts???
Moving on to what would he like less of I get a view of what looks like an inside school or indoor school but think he might mean time inside he would happily be out 24/7 but equally I feel that his tummy would be very large! He is epitome of a good doer so I feel that you have to bring him in at times, although he doesnt hate it at all, he would just prefer to be outside!
We do have a small indoor school, and I've only ridden him once in there. He was fine and had no issues with it as far as I could see. He is out 24/7 atm anyway.
I feel that your relationship and partner ship has a long way to go, in that you will be together for a long time to come and when the learning that you have planned is complete he will be your perfect partner (I know it is the title of a Kelly Marks book, so I wonder if you are working your way through that with this lad). I dont have any worries for him at all, he is a nice genuine lad, learning still all the time and will definitely get there.

Overall I am quite pleased with it, although it is a bit vague and if I'm being cynical could apply to other horses too.
