After GH's post the other day, I thought I might have a look through the photo albums whilst I was at home and find some more pictures of my special dog, Midge.
However I was confronted by my shameful doggy past... our first dog... A LAB
Mac
It's not too bad, he wasn't a proper Lab, he was suppoosed to be a Lab X Springer, but we find out a year later that the Farm Collie had got there first! Back in the day when crossbreeds cost £30 too!
But wait it gets worse
Because we also briefly had a GSD!!!
Rubbish picture, he was such a gorgeous dog. We went to the local dog shelter to donate some dog food and made the big mistake of going to look around the dogs. Rye was a 7 month old GSD and we instantly fell in love.
He stayed with us for two days, it was clear he hadn't the best start in life and my Parent's had no experiance of big dogs so didnt feel comfortable taking the risk. So unfortunately he went back
Big soft teddy of a dog shouldn't have had any problem finding a lovely experianced home.
It was sad when Rye went, however he made us realise we did want another dog, which led to this little bundle of trouble arriving....
My Parent's realised after Rye that they were Spaniel people (they'd had Springers before Mac and Mac was bought as a Springer cross in the theory that he would be slightly calmer than a Springer but still similar) and the quest began for a Puppy.
Midge was probably the runt of the litter, he hid under the chair when we arrived, which was a great start for a dog that was supposed to have a future as a Gundog!
However he did the opposite of most puppies and came out of his shell the second he got home! He spent the evening terrorising Mac, who adored him, and nipping us poor humans, hence he was christened Midge!
He grew into a fabulous dog, perhaps the most sweet natured animal I've ever met! He was a fabulous worker, but had a tendancy to chew birds, so was only sent for the ones that no one else could find
I used to drag him around the Young Handler Scurries and despite his tendancy to walk back, lift his leg and even once going for a poo
we won a couple!
However, this is what he did best of all.....
WALLOW!!
Blimey! I've rambled on!
