my shetland is a rig

My friends horse was 3 and very stallion like, all 17 h of him, quite scary actually. He turned into a 'normal' gelding almost overnight after surgery, certainly after a month you'd never have guessed what he was like before.

It cost about £800 in total. The op was difficult and long, that included several visits afterwards.

My Shetland was gelded recently, he is 10 years old and he is turned out with my mare... approx 6 weeks later! it cost me about 250 pounds and that was done under general and everything was fully removed, I would imagine it would be similar for a rig.
 
hi that was a good price i was quoted 1 to 2000 pounds and that would be a vist to liphook vet hosiptal
 
Will be more expensive than normal gelding as the testicles have not dropped, so will probably need general anesthetic so they can find them!!! Do you know his history??? I assume he has retained both??? I recon £1000-£1500 is about right as that was what a friend was quoted when their gelding had to be taken to Liphook to be gelded as one retained, but fortunately it dropped under heavy sedation, so GA not required in the end.

I guess insurance won't cover it, but might be worth a check, if not how about trying to find a stud to take him to use him as a teaser?? I'm afraid if he were mine and the other options suggested weren't viable, then I would cut my losses and have him PTS as cost of Op would out way his value.
 
I was quite surprised at the cost too. He was done at our local equine vet hosp which isn't a big name one. The vets are fantastic, very committed and very experienced. Our lad didn't stay in overnight by the way so I guess that made it a little cheaper. It was good value, he has turned into a wonderful horse!
 
i think you should do surgery or keep him away from tempting ladies and innocent little shetti geldings lol!
i think you might have a naughty little man on your hands there lmao!
 
i still have to think about what to do next i think i will get the vet out and dope gremlin to see if somethink falls.
