Okay, so Cloud is due to foal in a few days so I am going out to get the last of my things I may need. I have already vaccinated and wormed her and she is developing well and she is now in her little paddock immediately opposite my house so I can watch her all the time without bothering her. I am happy with the progress so far.

So, I already have plenty long gloves, a Jump-start for foal if necessary, some bran for a nice mash to give her afterwards, string for afterbirth, iodine, milk tester (litmus, distilled water and Pool Check etc) and may have other things which I have forgotten to mention.

I need to buy some lubrication, I have a navel "mycin- something or other" which I need to check is appropriate, I need a stainless steel pale...

Anything else you can think of? My list seems awfully frugal but I am having a mind-block so may have missed off something very important

Oh bless you....I knew that milk replacer should have been on my list....told you I had a mind-block

Oh yes I'll have the champers on ice!

Oh jeez.....towels!! Seems simple and obvious....but all of our towels are beautiful velour ones and I wouldn't want to use them for a foal......cruddy towels are now on the list.

Foal rug - extra large dog rug as they have velco and no buckles/clips. Well, I say extra large, I have no idea how big your mare is!
JAGS so, sorry to read about Sirrus, I've just noticed. I've been there and I know how much you must hurt right now. thinking of you.

Camera is a good idea. Whenever I have taken pictures of newborns (cats, dogs, humans) I have avoided using a flash as I think after months of darkness it must be dreadful. I think I may be alone in this though, and maybe a bit neurotic.

I can't believe you have to go and buy grotty towels! Borrow the dog towels, they won't mind.

We always have some of those calf rope things in case the mare needs a hand, plus replacement milk just in case. We always save some of the first mare's colostrum and freeze it for the following year too.
I'm fascinated with thismilk test kit (we have a pool so probably have all the stuff )but what s it for? What's a milk test?

Well I think I am all set LOL!!

The pool testing kit is called AquaCheck - it tests for ph levels and calcium. You need distilled water and obviously the milk. If you are interested HH then I can send you the instructions - it's very cheap and simple to do and from what I have been told it will positively tell you when the mare will foal. MUCH cheaper than the foal ones.

The only thing I didn't get was the milk replacer as they only sold the 20kg bags, so will go and get a smaller one elsewhere.

So now we just need a little foal to pop out at some point in the next couple of weeks.

Megan is determined not to miss this! I expect when Cloud looks like she is going to foal that Megan will volunteer to sleep in the shelter with Cloud....heehee! sometimes it is good to have 10 year old children!

I was thinking that I might have to go out there but Meg can just shout over to my bedroom if anything goes on.....see told you I was lazy

Good to hear you've got the priorities sorted out

Awwww bless her, I just knew that Megan would take charge of the operation. What a wonderful experience it's going to be for her!

Tia, you just have to video her face at the big event. I bet it will be a picture!

Oh Dubs, you just wouldn't believe HOW excited she is! Everytime Cloud lies down, she rushes down the stairs to tell me to check her, LOL!!

Camcorder is fully charged - and digicam is ready to rock and roll. Hate to be pessimistic .... but I am sooooo hoping this goes smoothly. Haven't had any set-backs at all so far, so fingers crossed for this to continue.

Awww, I can imagine how excited she is.

I really believe that it will all go well, and have my fingers crossed. This is going to be a wonderful memory that she will cherish for the rest of her life.
You are going to be one very proud mummy I'm sure

Not sure technically whom the Mummy is....but whatever title I am given....yes I will be very proud.
