My stubborn horse is so difficult to worm

Hello Guys,

Im back for your excellent advice and help :-)

Basically my horse is going on gastroguard and too my horror I have to syringe every day with him, But it has dawned on me that he is an absolute pig when it comes to worming as it is anyway.

I have never wormed him I have always got his old sharer to do this for me. But she has left us now. She was very small so found it easy to insert him with the syringe as she stood just under his neck. But me on the other hand am over 5'8 and i just cant do it without him backing off before i insert it.

Is there an attachment I can get so I can esnure he takes it all. Gastroguard is expensive. I would put in feed but what do you give a horse that is just on readigrass that isnt exactly appealing for him to take his meds.
 
My problem isn't so much the horse as the length of the syringe - I've got child sized hands and I just can't reach the plunger with my fingers round the syringe, and the horse isn't that keen on taking it that he'll let me use both hands to deliver it!
 
Ooh that us very clever :) I think if I have problems with my youngster worming again this time I shall get one of these... Thankyou :)
 
Thumbs up for the easy wormer i got one for my unhandled youngster and it was a god send even after we got her tame and manageable in most day to day handlings she always despised her mouth being touched, am also very greatful to my highly understanding and patient horse dentist who did not insist on sedating my looney for check ups :-)
The other trick i also use (which won't be sutiable if your horse is on a restricted diet) was an apple corer, core the middle of the apple, keep the core cut the ends of and use them like a bung in the apple and put the wormer in the middle by the time she'd bit into her juicy apple and relaised there was something disgusting hiding in the middle the tasty apple won out and she ate it all though not without a disgusted look on her face lol am sure she was thinking very evil things about the b***h that tricked her into eating that poisoned apple!
