my terriers do nothing but bark!!! any ideas how to calm the situation

i no barking is what terriers do best but it is getting completly stupid. when they go into the garden im sure they just go out to bark and when people walk past they bark, when some1 shuts a door in the house they bark it is driving me mad!! has any1 used them anti barking collers and do they work?? x

I wish there was an answer to this, as my neighbour opposite has two JR's who bark CONSTANTLY from the crack of dawn till late into the night - they are never walked, just left to run wild. They even come and stand at MY gate, barking at me working in MY OWN garden!
At least you seem to care about the noise, shame my neighbour doesnt!
Distracting tactics might work, there are a number of those collars on the market.

Thats what terriers do! I wish more people would research their
chosen breeds before getting one.

mine don't, because i tell them off if they do! they bark if someone arrives (that's their job) but other than that i don't let them. i've heard that a water-pistol works as a deterrent. i'd be very wary of using an electric-shock-type collar on such a small dog, i heard of a jrt who had a nervous breakdown because of one... they are pretty sensitive (in spite of the decibels!)
have you tried calling their names, and giving them a treat the moment they stop barking and come to you? i'd do this until just calling their names stops them.

That victoria stillwell (if thats her name) off 'Its me or the dog' was always pretty successful with barkers. I can't remember her techniques, but they always seemed to work.

We used an electric collar on our terrier, he was hard as nails and it worked. Depends on the dog I think.

My friend used a collar that gave a high pitched sound if the dog barked, she said it worked.

i have tried telling them off, i have tried the water pistol it worked for a while then they just thought it was a game!!!! my bitch terrier is really respectfull of me and when on her own behaves but its my male dog he is so ignorant and then starts barking at you for telling him off then starts getting agressive!! i have tried evrythin honestly! spliting them up works but i cant cuz i love them to much!

wasnt really planning on the electric coller dont like the sound of them but have read about the high pitch sound ones so might give one of those ago but keep the ides coming it is much appreciated xx
