I took out the pommel on my treeless saddle to check it still fitted, and when I put it back in the zip that holds it in broke

I was hoping it would keep me going for a few months until I have saved up enough money for a new saddle. :(

Can you ride without the pommel inserted? Or will it need to be repaired before I can ride in it?

Has this happened to anyone else?

I think it depends on the make of saddle.
I know the barefoot saddles said you could remove the pommel insert and stuff it with other materials (sponge/newspaper) or remove completely when jumping so if one of those you should be fine.

This exact same thing happened to a friend lately! I think the pommel stays in there for so long the zip must deteriorate. You could just get a saddler to whack a new zip in?

Unfortunately I don't know what make it is as it came with my horse when I bought him, and can't see any marks on it. It came with a requisite pad, so it could possibly be the one from robinsons.

Thanks for the info though!

Duct tape is my answer to everything. If it doesn't work you aren't using enough of it, lol.

If you want to be a little bit tidier (and for a longer term fix), you can buy sticky-back velcro too. I'd by two inch wide AND one inch, so you have an overlap. It's brilliant stuff, I use it on allsorts!

if duct tape doesnt work super glue will! i had to super glue my leather gaiters back together cause i couldnt afford new ones for competiting, worked a treat!
