Ok here goes

I first bought this filly as a foal, she is always naughty and veryvery playful.
Just of late she has capped her hocks which i am trying to deal with.

I turned her out to help with the hocks only to find the next day she had cut her leg.

The day after she has cut her side.

WHY IS SHE DOING THIS TO ME !!!!!!!!!

She is only a yearling and i have being getting her ready for the youngstock shows over winter.

I feel like she is only safe in the stable as one morning i dread to see what shes done but obviously i cant because of her capped hocks.

Tonight i found her with a leg up on the wall scratching her legs (not doing the hocks any good).

She hasnt got lice or mite and she has had the injection for that too. so god knows why she is doing this.

I am at my wits end with her!

SORRY FOR THE LONG RANT

Do your horses do this to you guys and have you any suggestions for me?

Thanks for listening xx

How did she cap her hocks in the stable - was it through rubbing or lack of bedding etc?

Have you spoken to your vet regarding the rubbing? Could she have sweet itch?

Just to add to my original post - youngsters are very good at getting themselves in to trouble, and yours may just be an accident prone baby. Obviously environment plays an awful big part of this.

I notice, however, that you will be getting a newly weaned foal shortly.

Mmmmm - I may re-consider in your shoes. Are you really set up for babies, both in the physical set up of your yard, as well as your experience??

put electric tape round the field perimetre to stop her rubbing or getting caught up and make sure she has at least one pal to keep her company.sadly youngsters do tend to be accident prone-theyhave even less sense than the adult horses!

Hi

I have my own stables and field all secure and she is on equi-mat rubber matting and a deep shavings bed. Its just one of those things.

At the moment she is living with my other mare who is very sensible.

Amymay Mmmmm - I may re-consider in your shoes. Are you really set up for babies, both in the physical set up of your yard, as well as your experience??

Had youngsters for years, yes my yard is set up and i have 25 years experience. Please dont just assume things Amymay.

I was basicly having a rant ! thanks

Hi Guys

No she hasnt got sweet itch she capped her hocks in the stable one night she must of banged them on the wall.

Its just one of those things, i think half the time she is bored as the mare she is in with is very laid back and just eats all day.

When the other foal gets here she will have someone to play with.

For 15 month she hasnt had as much as a scratch so must be going threw a phase like youngsters do i suppose

Thanks x
