Myler bit sizing

I'm looking into buying a myler bit. Horse is in a 5" nathe straight bar which IMO fits perfectly length wise. I know mylers tend to come up on the big side, so, do I order the 5" and pray it won't be too big, or 4.5" and pray it's not too snug?

It's a hanging cheek Mullen mouth I'm looking into, so no real flexibility in the middle to collapse around her mouth. They don't do a 4.75" in the bit!

Hmmm, difficult one - they definitely come up big, but then I think the Nathe's come up a little bit big too!

If I remember rightly there is still movement in the mullen mouth - if it were me I would hire before buy tbh.

Mylers are quite big. Is there anyone near you who can lend you a bit so that you can see the sizing? Otherwise, as LJR has said, hire it first. My instinct is to stay with the 5".

They come up big but they should not be tight there should be enough of a gap either side of the bit so I would buy 5.5 if that's what you use, if you Google myler the site does explain how they should fit.

I have a 5.5" Pelham with the identical mouthpiece I could try for size, but chances are it'll drown her but might get an idea for sizing. Only thing putting me off hiring is the fact you get sent a used bit on some occasions, I'd rather have a new one if I'm paying £80 or so for a bit!

Ring the Horse Bit Shop and ask them for their advice - they're very knowledgeable. If in doubt hire one so you have the option to swap it without incurring a big loss.

I use Mylers and size down 1/4" which is fine because my mare is 5 1/4 in standard bits.

My big lad is in the mb06 which has the same mouthpiece as the one you're looking at I think? I bough a 5.5 for him off ebay, fits really well. He previously had a full cheek with lozenge [not a Myler] that was 5.5 and that was a bit snug, so I'd say they do come up a tiny bit bigger.

I have a Myler hanging cheek Mullen mouth too, but my boy needs a 6". He has two other (non Myler) bits which are also 6" and it's not that different so I'd go for the 5". My boy loves his, hope it suits yours!

I use the same size Myler, horse is 5.5" in all bit bar the NS which is 5.75". The Myler doesn't look like she's carrying a stick though is slightly more protuberant. Horse is happy and I could use bit rings if necessary.

Thanks, given the fact it's a hanging cheek I'm after, I'm wondering whether to just get the 5 if nathe tend to come up big too, at least then it won't pinch. Horses, they cost me a bleeding fortune!

You're going to have to find a myler to try it for size. Otherwise it's just guess work. I would say they are significantly bigger than they are supposed to be so a 5.5" is really a 5.75". I made the mistake of buying a 6" for my 5.75" horse and it's far too big.
