Im a massive fan of the myler bits, currently using a hanging cheek, and pelham both are comfort mouth pieces with great success, however looking to change the pelham to a full cheek design. I’ve managed to get hold of one that has 'hooks', I believe that I can attach the reins to these slots? Can anyone tell me why I would use the hooks rather than just attach to the rings like a normal full cheek. I Would like to try the bit over the weekend and not sure where i should be attaching the reins.

Attaching to the hooks in theory would give you more leverage and the reins and cheek pieces of the bridle are attached to a fixed point on the bit.

Just so you are aware (although I'm sure you are) but the hooks make the bit not BD legal, whether you actually use them or not.

Surely if you attach the reins to the hooks and the cheeks to the ring the ring will just slide through the cheekpiece so won't actually give leverage. Wouldn't both the rein and the cheekpiece need to be on hooks

The cheekpiece goes on the top hook and the reins in the bottom hook. Mine works brilliantly as brakes (only thing that has worked on my horse, 13th bit to try!).

To a point, as poll pressure will not be applied but the mouthpiece will still rotate forwards in the mouth and apply tongue pressure. More info in the article below about the action....
