I have been looking at a Myler low port comfort snaffle for my mare and was just wondering (at risk of sounding completely stupid!!) how the 'hooks' are used? I can't get one at 6" without the hooks, so am just wondering how the hooks work and what effect the action will have on her? I am trying to avoid poll pressure as would rather ensure she is working completely from behind and correctly without me falling on the use of poll pressure to pull her into an outline inadvertently!

A lot of the Americans actually use a curb chain with a snaffle that it what the hooks are for.
They are easy enough to prise open and remove. (Best to get your farrier to do it, takes them about a minute!)

the 'hooks' on a myler are mainly there to sit the bit upright in the horse's mouth, by keeping the reins and cheekpieces in the right place.

by this, they will give a small amount of poll action - but generally not enough to stop you working the horse from behind correctly

the cheek pieces and the reins slot through the hooks (the cant be removed, theyre slots in the bit ring)
Fasten the cheeks and reins on as normal if you prefer.
Bear in mind that they arent dressage legal if youre bothered by that

My Myler just has hooks for the reins to go through (I have a full cheek comfort snaffle) but you can see in this photo that they are in place for the cheekpieces and reins. I've not had any poll pressure with my one, infact the cheeks go baggy when I 'take up' the reins.
