Help, grub understands halter pressure and even neck strap pressure but strongly objects to bit contact.... gets in a total tizzy and panics regardless of seat etc....... so ride on the halter tonight. Fantastic. Do I trust grub hacking out in a halter hell no......so anyone used the combination bit and is it BE or BD legal?

You could try tacking up with a lunging cavesson and a snaffle bridle, putting reins on both. You can then gradually transfer the contact from the cavesson to the bit.

A hack a more is not dressage legal, neither is any kind of combination bit.
I don’t think a Myler combination will achieve what you want. The nose pressure is secondary to the bit action.
Of you just want a rein on a bit 'in case' then ride with 2 reins- 1 to a hackamore, 1 to a snaffle bit.

Why are you "off to Google sidepull attachments" if you don't trust the horse in a halter? The action is the same.
Use bit clips with a hackamore noseband and whatever your preferred bit is with two reins.
