After being tied down most of her SJ working life, my sensitive mare loves and goes well without a martingale, flash or dropped noseband and in a Myler low port comfort bit.
Lately though, (no doubt due to the fact that we are into the Spring, that she's fit and feeling great)although she is obedient, she has become a little to strong for me when out cantering in fields with friends and having fun
.
I'm not a great rider I admit that although I do have soft hands and use very little contact which she likes. I don't want to start wrenching and pulling to control her. She's a 16hd SFx, with a cob we think and she is quite substantial mare.
I have looked at changing the bit and I can't make up my mind. I don't want to compromise her comfort and frame of mind, but I really do need to have some control sometimes.
Any ideas please?
I'm looking at the Myler long shank, the NS universal and have even considered a pelham or straight bar Myler?
As I've said, she's very sensitive and I will be left in no doubt, if she doesn't like it.
