Hi,

I've recently borrowed a Myler snaffle off my YO and pony seems to like it. It's a non-ported version with a short barrel in the middle, D rings and no hooks etc. It has the name Toklat engraved on the D ring.

I thought I'd just be able to get one from the bit bank to try for a month as the one I've borrowed is a little small but I can't find one anywhere online!

I'm starting to think the flipping thing is a figment of the imagination but Im sat looking at one here!

If I cant find the D ring version could anyone explain the different between a D ring and an eggbut ring on a snaffle?

Thanks

They generally only come in pony sized, and are difficult to come by! If you google myler bit bank, there is someone who can normally order what you want...sounds like a comfort snaffle mouthpiece to me.

Toklat is a big saddlery company in the US and they now license Myler products. The actual bits are no different.

D rings are the default snaffle cheek option in North America as they are traditionally what show hunters wear. So your bit came from North America.

Technically D's work the same as eggbut cheeks as far as how the mouthpiece works. I do find they make a difference to stability and steering though.

Can you really not get a D ring myler here? I've seen them! Have you been in touch with the company?

Ah, it's making a bit more sense now, the one I have is little so it's pony sized. Will contact the company and see what they can do, I just quite fancied getting one on trial before buying.

Try here...although that certain bit isn't on the website I expect she can get it for you and she's really helpfull as well.

Or....I'm thinking it's the 02 mouthpiece you have tried....but just in case it's the 04

And again somewhere else to try that can probably get one for you!

Oh, and....both places do trials. Not a huge difference between a D ring and an eggbutt. D ring is flatter so possibly more comfortable and also a bit better steering. I've ridden one Horse in both styles and didn't notice any difference. They are both fixed cheek so the action is the same.

I will say that's the only difference since Toklat started to make them! Really annoys me! I had one with the original, smaller rings and sold it to someone thinking it would be no trouble to replace. :( The new one is a much less attractive bit.

Honestly i've scoured (sp?!) the internet - a D with the mullen comfort mouthpiece with a narrow barrel - doesn't seem ton exist in the UK!

If you know 100% what one it is then just buy it from the States. It'll be much and such the same cost. I've ordered from here before with no probs. Ok the postage isn't the quickest but I seem to recall it was less than 2 weeks. I think this is the one you mean but if not they have the full range.

That's the one!!! Will definitely consider ordering from the States - but now I have that picture I can email the link to the UK bit banks and say that's what I'm looking for. Ideally I'd prefer to trial it as I'm a little concerned about the sizing and what to go for.

Thanks :)

Yeah was going to say my mare has a 4.5 inch myler that measures just under 5 inch....I would imagine its the pony one you have....

Thanks everyone, it's all starting to make more sense - I've been sat with the tape measure trying to work out if it's a 4.5 or as 5 in bit that I have borrowed!I think you're right - it'll be a 4.5 pony bit and I'll be wanting a 5 (oh crikey - does this mean the D's are going to cover half the poor pony's face!!)
