Mysterious Lameness

After about a month of time off since we had our pony scanned and the vet put his lameness and swollen foreleg down to a thickened tendon, I slowly started to walk out on him on the roads. However, although he was initially sound, now when trotted up, he takes a 'lame' stride every 4 or five strides, but this lameness is not consistent. His leg is no longer swollen or hot, he recently capped a hock, but that is going down slowly. If it makes any difference, our yard is situated at the bottom of a very steep hill. almost like a valley, and it is after this 200m climb there is a flat private lane, where I usually trot, colud this be affecting him?

Any ideas welcome!
Thanks

Hello
This sounds very similar to what I am going through with my boy.

He had intermittent lameness, no heat or swelling.

we had 2 lots of 10 days rest and danilon and he is still lame, another vet looked at him and diagnosed just about everytype of arthritis in the lower leg you can think of x 4.

4 weeks later and horse is still lame and on danilon. So after a discussion with the fantastic vet today and asking him what he would do, we have decided to take Jake to the vet school. I am worried sick, but its gotta be done as I want to do everything I can for that horse.

I found hard ground, especially trotting made my horse worse.

I think you need to get the vet out again.

I hope there is nothing serious.

good luck x

Maybe you could get another vet out as a 2nd opinion to investigate further- maybe they will be able to pin point the exact problem and then carry out nerve blocks/x rays as necessary so that you know what is going on. Could be arthritic changes in the joint /hind leg or something. I would steer clear of hills until you know what is going on with your horse.

Good luck though (and hopefully it wont be anything too serious fingers crossed!)

i would massage with comfery oil cold hose and give him arnica tablets walk him on soft round only and make sure his turn out is flat has possible!

probably its no massive tendon injury, however there is chaffing of the tissues around the tendon

i had this with a poni whom was lame on and off, we got it scanned and not much showedd upp exceptt tinyyyy inflamation of tares around the tendon so not acutal tendon injury

we did box rest 1 week
then walk work for 2 weeks and re scanned and played it all by ear

pony was finee
