Just over a week ago i notised a lump that has started to appear on my horses stifle. It is tissue like lump not boney and it about the size of a small walnut. He has had 2 injuries there before, 1 we dont know what happened as there is just a small scar there that was there before we brought him, which was over five years ago and the other was an infection which was pretty much in the same place that vet thinks was caused by a slight scratch. He dosent appear lame on it, have proded it about and he dosent seem to mind!
So to get to the point was just wondering if anyone had any idea what it could be or if i should just bite the bullet and get the vet out?

thanks!

If it does not feel attached to anything and is not getting bigger or causing lameness or pain i would just keep an eye ont it just now. I am nearly 60 and have lots of lumps and bumps scars amd broken bits from my youth i would suspect horses are the same.

If it is firm and near the surface it could be a sarcoid. My friends horse has a sarcoid just above the stifle. If its fluid it could be bursitis. Hard to say with no picks but there's a couple of guesses.

Dont think its fluid, he has had a sarcoid before so quess he could get another one, but it is under the skin so that makes me think that maybe is isnt. He is prone to mysterious injuries, bless him

Hate to dissapoint you but sarcoids can be under the skin and the one on my freinds horse in this location is. It's quite large and very firm - a nodular sarcoid. The vet is going to try putting a rubber band round it so it will drop of but it may not work because it's an area of high movement. I would check your horses belly and between legs very carefully incase there are any others.
