mysterious plant flower growing in our area

This plant or crop has just bloomed in the corner of some of the farmers fields in our area, north cheshire.

Does anyone have any idea what it is?

From a distance it looks very Thistle like, but up close its a rather beautiful flower, small clusters of a blueish purple colour and it smells beautiful. :)

it is pretty,i wonder what it is?
i pass a blue field on my travels but it is on a busy road and i dont stop.
 
How very beautiful! Its not flax/linseed which I suspect is what you see in the blue field on the way to work.

As to what it is....??
 
Yes I picked it.....field full of it....

Yes it is rather beautiful. Its not the peached leaved bellflower.

It does look like thistles when you pass, only up close can you see
the little flowers that are projecting out of a curved stem in loads
of clusters on each stem. It really is beautiful.

Havent a clue which farmer owns it its defo not a local one as I have
asked them and they dont know either? LOL.

I might have to join a ''wild flower'' forum just to find out
 
'Tis Phacelia tanacetifolia, can be used as a decorative but is more normally seen used as green manure with the extra benefits that its flowering stage is very attractive to bees and also to lacewings and ladybirds whose larvae will then scoff the wretched aphids.
