My 5 year old black lab has been lame with various degrees of near fore lameness for 6 months. The vet can't find anything - the X-Rays show no arthritis in the joints, no OCD, no sesamoiditis, no elbow dysplasia, couldn't find any thickening of the tendons. It's gone on too long for muscle. No corns in the pads, no nuffin'!
We've tried 2 different types of homeopathic remedy and are now on Previcox anti-inflammatories.
I'm wondering whether it could be gout? It started after he'd pigged out on (raw) lamb bones - he's typical labrador, stomach on legs. I've heard of similar mystery lameness in 2 other dogs, one another piggy lab and the other a beagle that lives to eat - he has it in all 4 paws and won't put his hind down.
Does anyone else have any experience of anything similar, and does anyone know of any remedy for canine gout that I can try? I'm going to keep a food diary for him to see whether it is his diet that aggravates the lameness.

you could get a vet to look at her back/neck/shoulder

my whippet kept going lame in her fore leg quite a while back one vet didnt even trott her up kept putting her on rymidal(sp)...took her to a greyhound vet he said straight away its her back and had her x-rayed and she also had spasms in her neck...so maybe get a second opinion...good luck hope you can find the cause

My vet did look at the neck in case it was referred lameness - she says that if the anti-inflammatories haven't worked in a month to try physio. In the meantime, I've started giving Becks a teaspoonful of cider vinegar in breakfast and dinner - reasonably sound today - don't know whether that's due to the NSAIDs, the cider vinegar, or the snow being soft on the paws!
