So I left the ponies in a different area last night to try and save the ground in their main paddock for a few weeks, went to check on them this morning and the little old lady has got several patches of hair/skin missing around her head and muzzle. Two small ones by her ears and a couple under her jaw, then a larger patch on one side of her muzzle (about double thumbprint size). They don't wear headcollars in the field so that couldn't have caused it.
Completely mystified as to how this happened, they have a brambl patch and sweet chestnut tree in the current field which she might have managed to get caught on but that's the only lead we have. from tonight - its back to the mud patch for them!
